A Gripe with the mods.

Okay, we get it, we do not want too much redundancy with threads, but this is getting ridiculous. This is not 20 posts about wether Tblades will make you faster. There have been a lot of threads locked for no aparent reason. Most recently, in this forum, a thread was locked about fast food. People were talking about fast food and what is their favorite. So Chadd comes along and locks the thread with a link to a 7 month old thread about fast food. WHY!? Do you think people are searching the forum for advice on fast food? People want to be involved in a discussion or debate on which is the best, and they are not going to get that by digging up a 7 month old thread. If people are looking for facts like what is the inno (damn, warrior) clone of Sakic, they should use the search, but not for crap like this. What is next, one thread for each topic, and then after that, all new threads on that topic get locked? To quote Chadd " It's even worse that the topic was already posted". Give me a break, a lot of new members have joined the board and should be allowed to interject. Also, a lot of members were not included in that post. This is not just about this thread, lots of threads have been locked for no good reason. I just hope this does not get locked...

As I told you through PM, it may not be as bad because it is in Misc but in Icehockey it's a total mess. We're just trying to condition members into using the search as their first option.

forgive me for not wanting to search for 30 minutes to see if anybody in the history of MSH has mentioned anything about fast food. Don't get me wrong, i love MSH but i do agree that it has gotten a little bit out of hand, part of it is people with dumb posts, but sometimes its overeacting to these dumb posts...

Try reading through every post and you'll understand. It's pretty pathetic that I have to lock threads when the same thread is 7 posts down, on the same page.

And I definitely agree with locking factual threads or overly redundent ones, but the locking of the aforementioned thread just pissed me off. I think us senior members remember the early days of corebeam and even easton where it was just horrible. I think the mods do a top notch job here, it is just when threads like that get locked that pisses me off. If its easily searchable, fine, but sometimes you cannot search for the exact answer you want.

I have to agree with the locking of the thread, I mean regardless about the subject I believe that it still could have been searched. This board is a lot better than others when it comes to this, I've seen on other boards the mods just let all the verterans jump all over the "newb" for not searching.

What I didn't get was why one of my threads got deleted in the general hockey discussion. It was a "lookalike" as seen on "another forum." I thought it would be fun as it was on the other board. Regardless it got deleted, don't know why... nor do I care. I'd rather just shrug it off and go read more about new equipment or something, it's not worth gettin annoyed or bothered by.

With how common fast food is... Chances are on most forums they've already talked about fast food at some point in time. Now I wouldn't search forever for it, maybe one time through the search engine but still. I mean if you search "burger king" you'll probably pull up what you're looking for, then feel free to bump away!

It took less than 10 seconds to find the topic in question.

In all honesty, I would prefer to get rid of the miscellaneous topic area completely than continue to have topics that add nothing to the site. The things people post simply because they are bored still require our time to moderate. Every once in a while we get a decent topic in here that makes it actually worth dealing with the crap.

I have to say I am with VAPOR. While I am sure there is a lot more to running this site than meets the eye, there seems to be a couple of mods that are a bit heavy handed when it comes to shutting down a thread. I would have never searched on a fast food topic either. Besides, I thought the misc topic was a place to shoot the sh*&t anyway. As far as certain mods being concerned with repetitive crap... how many "which is better X or Y?", "what curve is best for me?", "should I buy online?", ect. must we endure? If you wanted to, half the threads on here can be locked and you could just say it's "personal preference, go down to your LHS and fist f*&ck all the sticks until you find one you like". Yes some people like to hear themselves talk/ type, but hey it's a public forum. Cut them/ us some slack.

Post exclusivly here for a week and then come back to MSH.

Not to bash on them, but their equipment forum is like a bunch of monkeys throwing poop at each other. Same topics on 1 page, flamewars and not a mod in site **(except for when somebody posts a thread about equipment OUTSIDE the equipment forum).

I think MSH does a great job of keeping this site professional and clean.

All public web sites have people that run and maintain them. This is a public site because anyone can join, there are no membership requirments.
