Toughest/most durable holder and blade?

Recommended Posts

My 'little' brother is a wrecking ball of a man (5'9", 260lbs - though in surprisingly good shape) who just started playing again, and has been breaking blades and holders left and right. He's on a pair of Supreme 3000s, and apart from the original TUUKs he blew out (they'd been sitting in the basement for about six years), I don't know what his LHS has been putting on them, but they all suffer the same fate. They seem to be breaking either directly as a result of shot-blocks (of which he gets a lot), or shortly afterwards.

I've heard pretty good things around here about the Mission steel, but couldn't find anything definitive about which holder would stand up to the greatest amount of abuse. What will handle the amount of abuse he's giving his skates?

I'm also on the heavier side (6'2", 240# or so) and have trashed other holders. I've blown out a couple pairs of Tuuk Custom and one set of Prolite 3s. I'm currently using Mission holders and steel... I have F-Pro on my 8090s and Pitch 3 on my Kor Shift 1s. No problems with either holder, the steel is very good (holds an edge well and is easy to sharpen)... I'd recommend the Mission route.

Its hard to officially test this and really, all of them that come to mind are pretty tough. The old ccm pro lites had SOME issues (none that I had, but I have heard a few stories). If I could only have 1 holder and it had to last, I would choose the tuuk custom. Just holding a set of them gives you a sense that they are built a little better than the rest.

Cobra's and ICM's are the strongest, but no complaints about Pitches from me. 6'4" 265

I love ICMs! Skated on them recently for about a year. They're next to impossible to find anymore...NBH needs to revive them. Cobra steel leaves a lot to be desired, and their screw system comes loose too easily and isn't always easy to fix.

No problems with E-pros at all, go the CCM route.

Forgot about E-Pro, they're good holders. CCM steel is about middle of the pack as far as overall quality though.

I'm a heavy guy and I've taken quite a few shots off the E-Pro that are on my Vector6 skates. Can't say much about the boot durability however, I'm noticing some give after only a couple dozen sessions.

For the record, I've broken two Mission F-Pro holders blocking shots. Good holder & steel otherwise and inexpensive to replace B)

I switched to Pitches at the beginning of the season, and I just noticed that there are vertical cracks on both holders at the toe where the steel inserts into the holder. Is this common with the Mission's (where another holder would be better), bad luck or does my fat ass need to lose some weight?

What are ICMs?

the best holder/blade ever made... Stiffest/most durable/best steele

The only downside with it, was that you couldn't just change the steel.

Too bad they don't make them any more..

Oh yes. What does ICM stand for?

If you guys like these holders so much why not buy a pair of cheap old skates and just keep the holders.

Not to change the subject or anything, but I have heard great things about mission's pitch holder too. I talked with an old friend of mine who swore by tuuk customs (used them for as long as I known him). I asked him what he was skating on and he told me he got a pair of AG's a little while back. I assumed that he would put on a set of tuuks on them but when we met up he had left the pitch holder on them. He said that he wont ever go back to tuuks after using his pitch holder.

Sounds like me when I got my first pair of S500s.

wether theyre actually the most durable or not, ive found my LS2s to be extremely durable for me. they also have some of the best steel ive ever skated on.

The steel isn't amazing but LS2s are definitely my favorite holder, but I'm not a small guy and "if you've ever seen me in shorts in the off-season, my legs are like tree trunks."

2k7 reference there.

The LS2 is stiffer than the custom+ so it's better for those heavier players. PITCH is inbetween but closer to custom+ on feel(softer).

I've found the CCM E-Pro to be very durable and also the Mission Pitch 3 holder and blade. Only ever broken one Tuuk holder though.
