Pretty boy vs. the golden boy

Recommended Posts

What's your thoughts on the big fight saturday? Looks almost to good to be true. Most people are going with pretty boy, but the critics present a good point with the size de la hoya has, and his left jab. But I think Mayweather is too fast.

What do you guys think? If Mayweather wins does he officially become one of the best fighters of all time? I can't wait.

TSN has been running a documentary on the fighters' preparations leading up to the fight. Many good story lines:

- Mayweather's uncle used to be de la Hoya's trainer, but is training Mayweather for this fight. De la Hoya would have insight into Mayweather's strengths and weaknesses;

- de la Hoya's new trainer is a good strategist;

- Mayweather's father just got out of jail and wanted to train his son. Mayweather had to clear the air among the three of them (uncle, father, and himself); and

- Mayweather has been taunting de la Hoya in the PR sessions (he had a chicken at one session and called it the Golden Chicken).

I've been looking forward to this fight too. I'm rooting for de la Hoya, but Mayweather is justifiably confident in his abilities.

Mayweather in a KO.... I think Del la Hoya is done, honestly... and it's unfortunate too, because Oscar draws HUGE ticket/PPV sales, he's one of the few big draws in boxing left... I mean, c'mon, who still sells? Jermaine Taylor? Klitscko?

No more B-Hop, Tyson, and soon, Del la Hoya... Boxing is going downhill now...

Mayweather doesn't knock people out anymore, he just toys with them, keeps his nose clean and racks up the points with his quickness. I think that could come back to bite him unless he goes with a more aggressive strategy. I don't think there's any doubt he's the better fighter at this point, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to win... but I can't pick against him... Mayweather in a unanimous decision...

De La Hoya in a split decision, but I think the fight will lean in Mayweather's direction... They'll just give it to Oscar if it's close.

At this point I think Oscar will barely handle Mayweather, both aren't the dominate fighters they used to be. Oscar has the experience and Mayweather has the speed, should make for a good fight(although I won't watch it, I haven't watched boxing in years).

I think Ray Jones in his prime was faster... In my opinion, Jones was only second to Ali when it came to hand/foot speed.

Pretty Boy in a split decision... didn't sound like that great of a fight from most accounts, glad i didn't drop the 55 bucks for it...

I went and watched it at the bar. lol it was pretty funny every 30 minutes the thing that comes accross the bottom saying they arent allowed to show it in a bar lol I thought it was a pretty good fight. I think de la hoya could have done better had he managed to keep floyd against the ropes. He also didnt manage to land any hard left hooks. In all the split was pretty ridiculous, i don't know what fight the first judge was watching but there's no way de la hoya won but anyways good fight, over hyped a bit.

This fight was one of the best fights i've seen in my life. I'm glad i dropped the 20 bucks for it.

Shows how much you were watching the "do not show this fight in bars" notice and not the actual fight. De la hoya suprised Mayweather and his punches were hurting Mayweather like hell. This guy punches hard. Mayweather managed to adapt and was really good in the second half of the fight. I still think his punches were weak and made no damage to Oscar. I love De la hoya's comment at the end: "If i'm not the attacker, going forward on him, there's no fight." And it's true. If Oscar De la hoya doesn't attack Floyd Mayweather for the KO during the entire fight, there's nothing to watch.

The fight surprised me a lot, i was so surprised by De la hoya's performance during the firts 8 rounds. I didn't notice any radical changes but after the 12th round, Mayweather had came back and won enought rounds for the win. I can't believe it. This guy just can't retire like this.

I found it funny how when asked why he didn't use his left jab more Oscar said "it wasn't the night of the jab". I don't know why he didn't use it more, it was his most sucessful punch all night.

It's ridiculous to even suggest that De la hoya won that fight. Yeah he attacked him and punched him hard sweet they are boxing after all. Mayweather showed why he is the best pound for pound fighter in the world he adapted. He knew Oscar would get tired and just let him go. While getting his precision punches in, I don't think I saw throw a flurry of more then 3 punches at a time. Fact is, Mayweather knew his opponent and let oscar come at him. De la hoya fights extremely flat footed with little movement so mayweather didn't have to go after him. He stood their and hit him. Sure you could say Oscar was the more exciting fighter, but excitement doesn't win fights.

Also worth noting mayweather fought at 148lbs. So he was a weight class below Oscar, he knew coming into the fight exactly what he was going to do. And it wasn't attack and look for a KO.

Did anyone catch the

"Today may be Cinqo De Mayo, May 5th, but tonight its Mayweather"

at the end?

I think it went something like that, but nonetheless, I laughed.

the fight was way overhyped

i thought it was funny how mayweather doned the mexican colors

It's an obvious jab at DLH who some believe doesn't represent Mexico.

speaking of mexican representation

i was wondering that also why marc anthony sang the american anthem rather than the mexican one
