How you feelin will be power houses

What makes you say that? Just cause they got Espo tonight? Unless they upgrade their Defense I don't they contending for a cup. I'll save my gut feelings for another week until FA's start to sign with teams

Crosby, 135 points, Malkin 105 pts, Staal 80 points.

Defense or no, the Pens won't get knocked out in the first round next time.

Fleury will step it up, the rest of the young guys are more prepared.. I think the East will be between the Pens/Sabres/Devils.

I see the Caps sneaking in this year as well.

I'm hoping for a big FA signing on Defense, but who knows. Hoping we keep Roberts and dump Recchi like a date on prom night. Oh, and Thibault too.

Crap. We kept Recchi.

Fleury has yet to "step it up" in any post season, at any level he played.

Turco lite

That's perhaps a little unfair to Turco after his performance this year. First round exit or not, that was one hell of a show he put on, and he only lost to maybe the best goalie in the world at the moment, with absolutely no goal support.

Pittsburgh definitely needs some help on D - curiously, they're one of a few teams I can imagine Redden waiving his no-trade for, even though I seriously doubt Ottawa would ship him to an Eastern team for anything less than a stellar young forward, and there's no way Pittsburgh would give up Staal.

Next year, if the Sabres can re-sign Drury and Briere, they're back into the hunt. Otherwise, I don't see them getting very far in the playoffs. The Pens, Ottawa, and those three Southeast contenders (Carolina, Tampa, and Atlanta) should be in the mix as well.

In the west, Detroit is a perennial contender so expect to see them in the mix. Anaheim will run for a repeat, and Vancouver and Dallas should also make high seeds in the playoffs. A big question is whether Nashville (or wherever they end up) will do as well as they've done the past couple years. We'll wait and see.

Guessing now is kinda pointless as the free agents haven't started jumping to different teams yet.

Well one thing's for sure, it ain't gonna be the Wild. We've got headcase Manny Fernandez wasting $4 million while the stud Harding languishes in Houston. $5 million wasted on Johnsson, and from the looks of it no money for an upgrade in a mediocre defensive squad. Might be watching from the sidelines again.

One of the guys you list will likely be gone (whispers indicate Drury). Word is that they're in danger of losing one or two other key guys, too.

If the sharks pull in Drury I really see them making a big push in the West. Also, if Niedermayer retires that could really make problems for the Ducks considering him and Pronger eat up about 25-35 minutes a game.

I don't get why there are so many rumors of Drury going to SJ. Unless the Sharks want to put him or Marleau at wing, it'd be worthless to have three #1 centers.

Marleau and Drury are both excellent on the wing, no problems there.

I have read that Drury owns a house in California and the fact that the Sharks opened up some cap room by dropping Toskala and Bell show that they are trying to make a move to grab somebody come July 1.

His house in California is 350 miles from San Jose. That would be roughly equivalent to saying that a guy is going to sign with the Penguins because he has a house in Philly.

Bell was a bust for the Sharks last season and there is no reason to pay your backup as much as the Sharks paid Toskala. Not to mention the fact that they got first, second and third round picks for them. It obviously wasn't just a salary dump.

If I could proffer a conspiricy theory....

Sharks have targeted drury, he is interested in playing there, but obviously can't do anything until after July 1.

Caps need a #1 center, so they give the #28 pick to the Sharks for a 2nd rounder and another 2nd next year, with a wink wink nod nod that they will work out a trade for Marleau once Drury is in SJ.

Marleau and Wilson not happy with each other because of the playoffs, drury takes marleaus place, marleau comes to the caps for a first next year, Eminger and Tomas Fleishman...

I know it's wishful thinking, but the caps need to do something

Yes, I agree that Bell was a bust and Toskala should be a number 1 goalie somewhere, but they still dumped almost 4 million dollars in salary. Also, they drafted Nick Petrecki who won't be signed by them because hes going to school and Couture could play another year in the OHL. Also, Malakhov's 3.5 Million come of the cap this summer from his retirement so that does free up space. And I was not sure where Drury's property was in California, just remember hearing he owned some.
