JR is retiring?

Recommended Posts

Thats a shame, JR was one of my favorite players of all time. He played the game hard and had great charisma. Tough to leave 5 goals away from 500, but what are you going to do. Hall of Famer?

He can't contribute with third or fourth line minutes, he needs to play. I'm guessing he wasn't offered a contract that paid enough to justify moving his family around for one more year.

Shame one of the best two way players in the last decade. Good solid offensive skill coupled with heart and ferocious backchecking loved to watch him play. I'm still miffed Colorado robbed him of his Stanley Cup on what clearly should have been a penalty shot.

In the day and age of overpayed, overexposed pompous arrogant professional athletes, he was a well grounded down to earth team player and class act. Well other than that Nagano thing, and that was a team effort.

Blame Bill Wirtz for dismantling one of the most talented groups of players in the league at that time.

I'm surprised there isn't more JR bashing, seems like just as many people appreciate him as hate him... Personally, I've always loved what he brought to the game... personality. He's always seemed like a big kid living a dream, instead of your typical professional athlete(even compared to some of your down-to-earth pros).

He seemed pretty immature to me on what it was reported about him... never met the guy, so I can't say.

Yeah, there's no one better to jump into the booth then JR. I bet you he got more offers from networks then teams this offseason lol

All in all, a great player and character to watch. Possibly the best American born player to never win the Cup

No way he should be in the booth. He was quite possibly the worst color guy I've ever heard when he did the world cup games a couple years ago. He might be better in the studio where it's more scripted, but in the booth he is horrendous.

Ahh, yes, I was at that game. That was damn funny. The crowd went nuts when he did that, both teams were laughing their asses off, too. The part you don't get in the video is before he starts dancing, JR giving instructions to the crew repairing the glass.

The only thing i can see that he wont retire is that he's only five goals away from 500 in his career. He has done nothing that I feel is worth bashing him for. He was an agitator (sp?) out there and got on alot of people's nerves.

Or, maybe not.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/articles/0716jr-ON.html

Responding to a media inquiry, his agent, Neil Abbott, said in a statement that Roenick has made no final decision for next season and will wait to make a formal announcement "in the next few weeks."

Translation: If nobody is desperate enough to sign him, he'll retire. He was always one of my favorite personalities and I'd love to see him back on the ice.

They should sign him here in Dallas, even his recent numbers would put in him in the top 10 in scoring on the team... plus it would carry on the Stars' tradition of signing players 10 to 15 years after it would've been awesome.

He would probably be stoked to play alongside Modano.

He had so much talent, drive and heart, hell still does. In some case more that some guys in the league almost 1/2 his age.

Old time hockey all the way, first playoff game of his career 1st period 18 stitches, 2nd period had his front teeth knocked out and in the 3rd scored the game winner.

As much as people think he is a no good arrogant man, he is one of the nicest guys off the ice. There is no better personality to have on a team then one of JR's status. He can make just about anyone laugh at any given time. I watched him have some good seasons with the flyers and he has always been a pleasure to watch. The heart and determination that he played with is few and far between with up and coming players. Wish he could get five more goals but I doubt he'll see another dressing room.
