Good bad skate laces

Recommended Posts

Have any of you heard or used these? I go threw more laces than I do tape. I always seem to tear the plastic tips on my laces and was wondering about these.

They claim: Revolutionary lace tip is guaranteed for the lifetime of the laces. Heaviest lace available on the market!

I read somewhere (probably here) that a drop of crazy glue on the tip of the lace tip does wonders for longevity. That is exactly what it looks like the sonic tip people did.

Heaviest laces?! But we all know the lighter the skate the better! Where are carbon fibre laces when you need them...

I use waxed laces with molded tips. They last quite a while.

Same here. I use yellow waxed (not sure who makes them) and never have probs with the tips. Usually the laces wear out long before any issues with the tips.

If the tips do come apart use a lighter to melt the end of the lace. No more frayed ends. B)

You could always make your own laces with this. You cannot get much better from a strength-to-weight ratio, plus, Spectra/Dyneema is very cut resistant.

I have been happily using "Sonic Tip" laces for the past several years; no problems lacing through my top two eyelets game after game. Also like the fact that they are thicker/wider style.

Haha, actually as i was at a company which produces all kinda carbon textiles, i found which would be good as laces. Just they don't have tips and you can't melt carbon... Plus they don't take cuts

I personally love graf laces and if I get replacement laces that's what I get. The quality and consistancy of their waxed lace is unmatched in my opinion.

TBL,

I'm with you there. I love the Graf waxed laces but just hate how the tips bust up on me all the time. I was told to try some Super Glue on them and see what happens. So we'll see.

i use the standard laces and when the tips fall off i use a lighter and burn the ends solid. i dont have undo my laces enough to have to feed it through the eyelets so this is not a problem for me :)

on the subject of laces, do you buy pre waxed laces or wax your own? i have non waxed laces right now and they dont stay tight for all they are worth, so maybe getting some waxed ones would work better?

yeah, should work. In fact, I need to get around to getting some graf waxed for my XXXXs... although, the regular NBH laces aren't bad(I'm really not getting much slippage, but they are eating my fingers alive).

Dunno about waxing non wax laces, but at 4 bucks a pair of laces probably not worth the hassle ;)

The main benefit of waxed vs. non waxed laces is that waxed laces will not move or loosen. Just be careful not to overtighten them.

A & R Sonic tip laces are great...especially in the different colors. I love the red...adds to the bling factor on my Vapor XXXXs

I love it with the MSH community starts a thread about a product I was looking at right when I'm looking at the product :)

Edited to remove my dumb question. FYI, using 96" laces works great if you skip the top eyelet and your skates came with 108".

These laces are pretty thick, should hold well, and the tips are easy to thread. $5.31 well spent.

I've used both the Bauer and A&R brand ones. For both brands, I've had to replace them because of lace cuts rather than the ends fraying.

Lucky. I buy them locally and the shops around here only stock 130" ones in white only (if at all) .
