odp 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 I don't know if they do it at the Joe, but my beer league was able to set up a game at Nassau Mausoleum for us last year. There was a combined ticket sales minimum to be met by both teams (basically the players each bought a ticket or two to the islanders game) and we skated on the ice directly after the game that we attended. One thing to note is that we had to get dressed in a hallway in the basement, as opposed to doing so in the locker rooms. Seeing as Detroit doesn't have trouble selling tickets, this may not be an option, but may be worth looking into. For an event like the MSH skate, I'd be willing to drop $60 on it if we get to use the locker rooms (maybe get a tour of the arena? don't know if they do that at the Joe). Out of curiosity, what's the rate at Novi or another rink in the area?We had the same program in Vancouver before they started making the playoffs again.Scorekeepers shouldn't be that big of a deal with pricing. Great ice, awesome building, and by December the cowshit smell should be gone!Not to start anything here, but State Fair grounds has got to be THE worst building I have been to in the Detroit area. If we are doing the skate in Winter again, it's often warmer OUTSIDE the arena at the Fair Grounds. Couple that with the nasty locker/ bathrooms and the awful neighborhood (for those who accidentally end up South of the arena), I vote to stay away from there. It's a straight shot across the 401 through Ontario though, so it would be pretty much impossible to get lost. But it is a LONG drive. I'd check Via Rail and see what their ticket prices are... revolutionz_s13 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 you know, skating at an NHL rink would be cool and all, but at home here in North Dakota, it only costs us abour $130/hr to skate on the Ralph Englestad, which is damn near as nice as any NHL rink, if not better than some....damn, $1800 is a crap load of money for 2hrs....I couldnt personally see skating at a NHL rink worth much more than that.... I would do it again, but probably not for more than $30.By the way, that was $25 a person, probably 22 skaters and 4 goalies (they switched halfway through). We had about 75 minutes of ice time. No fancy tours and we obviously used the guest locker rooms as it was during the season. Although I did get tons of pictures of the hallways and locker area. One guest per person watching for free and taking video/pictures. Parking was free as there was no event.Ice was okay, it was warmer than most places. Weird thing was the HUGE offensive zones and the REALLY lively boards. Bad part was most of the skaters weren't that great (all levels kind of thing). Last I saw JR there was conversation about getting 2 sheets at the same rink to accommodate the demand. I guess he is seeing more and more interest each year. Wolfpack_1986 154 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 man, they practically give the ice away down here in Carolina... the RBC is cheaper than some of the local rinks if you know the right people....JR, try posing it as a charity thing. people pay X to skate, the profit donated off to charity, along with something about tacking the wings as a donor when a check gets cut for whichever org.
