2008 NYR Thread

Wow. Horrible. They looked worse then ATL in the dismal game they played at Philly before Hartley got canned. If they don't shape up soon I'd have to think Renney's job is on the line.

So, should I start a Fire Renney thread or just keep everything here? I figure one NY coach left this week, may as well make it two.

16 in the last 20 periods had no goals scored. PP is atrocious. Sad part is, our D actually looked somewhat decent tonight.

I'll say it again. The Rangers added a guy who is notoriously a 3rd center that scores big goals once in a while, and a guy who has never had more than 70-something points in his career, yet the cup was already handed to them before the season even started. As far as I'm concerned we're as good, if not worse than last year.

Last season started off rough too. But I always had the feeling that the team was playing for and with each other. Even though things weren't going the way they should, you knew that everyone was trying and they were all a part of something bigger than themselves. Even Jagr. This year, everybody is zigging while everyone is zagging. Just no sign of gelling whatsoever. All this money spent, they're all out there on the PP for just about the full 2, and they can't even generate something worthwhile.

At least my seats are only in 409. I'd hate to think I woulda spent more for this...

Watching two bad teams try and out-bad each other... miserable. I was really kinda hoping they'd lose in regulation (even though I'd feel bad for Henry who'd played wonderfully) instead of get the gift point despite having been shutout. We hear these guys talking about a sense of urgency but not playing like it and that's Renney's fault. He's softer then then a down pillow and this team reflects that personality.

I was thinking exactly that towards the middle of the 3rd period when both teams had plenty of chances on the PP and did nothing. Boston has excuses to be like that though; they're young and have gone through lots of personnel changes, have a new coach, etc. The Rangers have none, or are at least running out of them ("Chemistry takes time!").

Slats went and done messed this whole team up real fine I reckon...

This season is awesome.

The Devils aren't much better.

I can't beleive the guys on Versus are still saying the Rangers have what it takes to win the cup, or even make the playoffs. Based on what I've seen, they're lucky if they come near 8th.

On a another note, Jagr is moping...again.

Well their big pick-ups were Weekes and Zubrus. Who'd you guys get?

Because nobody wants to play in Newark. Playing in Newark is like playing in...Anchorage, AK.

Who'd we get? A bunch of overpaid and impotent bums, at this point.

When straka comes back put him between Hossa and Jagr. Drury and Gomez with Shanny. Callahan Avery and Prucha. If that doesn't work, trade Jagr.

They looked really slow tonight. Even when they had opportunities to turn and go up the ice, they often went east-west instead or weaved up the ice. Granted, the Pens are a young and fairly quick team, but the Rangers looked painfully slow tonight.

People keep talking about everything turning around, and I hate to rain on people'e parade and not be a such whiner, but sometimes you put pieces of a puzzle together and they don't fit. The only thing you can do at that point is take it all apart and reshuffle.

Chadd, good observation. I made a comment before about watching a Ducks-Wings games and speed I saw by both teams up and down, all 60. The Rangers cannot compete in a game like that.

Yes, because NYC is the only place on Earth. I forgot that you'd be just as lame there as anywhere, but at least you get that part to put on your address.

Besides, what have the Rangers won since '94? Think about that and your overall failure at arguing, them come back to this thread with something good.

He'll probably end-up saying something about NJ's home attendance, or the ratio of Rags fans to Devils fans at games in the Swamp.

Dawes looked good tonight. The rest of the Rangers were very underwhelming.

This team really sucks. I didn't expect them to be as good as everyone else did going into the season but I can't say I expected this. This is beyond pathetic. The only guy on the team doing jack shit is Henrik. Every single other player on the team has been either invisible or a total disappointment.

Beginning of the season it was the defense. Now the defense is ok, and the offense sucks. I do feel bad for Henrik though, guy is working his tail off and the team can't even score 1 goal. Attrocious. I really hope the fans boo them when they come out at home against the Devils on Thursday.

Can you just let me bitch and moan in my own team's thread, Mack!? You can save the personal insults for a Devil's thread that I decide to hijack. Deal?

I thought the playoffs start in April. I'd rather suck now than then.

Everyone was brain washed over the summer that Cup was being awarded to the Rangers in October. Rangers fans forgot the mandatory pain they must suffer(its like Rangers penance) during every season. Drink another $10 beer at MSG and remember this is all part of being a Rangers fan. God, you guys forget so easily. Make the playoffs two years in a row and suddenly, amnesia about that 7 year run without being in the playoffs? This is all part of the process of bleeding Ranger Blue.

And yes, the Rangers will make the playoffs.

Are Beers only $10 at MSG? I think its more at Staples unless you get the sippy cup 8 ouncer.

I wasn't awarding the Rangers the cup at all, in fact PRIOR to the season starting I had a long conversation with a friend (Buffalo fan) about how I thought they were going to tank. He didn't agree. I do think they can turn it around to .500 for the season if they can get the power play working but after seeing the way they are being coached right now I don't have a ton of faith. They need to work harder, MUCH harder and Renney has to DEMAND it from them which he's never been one to do.

I've also read all these stories about how they were supposedly much better then PIT last night but for all the theoretical chances they had they not once looked remotely dangerous. They were easily contained and forced to shoot from the outside creating absolutely nothing of difficulty for Fleury. He never had to be better then average to garner the shutout victory. This has continued throughout the season thus far. The only game I think they played well enough to win offensively was the Islanders game. Outside of that, I don't think I've seen one iota of emotion or will to come from behind out of this bunch. That's a far bigger problem then a "slump" I think. I sure hope I'm wrong though... I get super tired of having to be annoyed every time I watch them play. It's like smoking crack and just getting sick instead of getting high.
