Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 For me, it's D. I'd much rather prevent a goal than score one (although I love scoring), but to be relied upon to break up plays, clear out traffic in front of the net, and block shots and passes is what I'm about. Nothing beats busting up a near breakaway or a one-on-one.I'm not a great puck carrier, I'd much rather bang it up to the forwards and let them do their thing. When I do play forward in pickup or out of necessity, I'm more of a banger and net crasher. I do get a better workout overall when I play forward, though. Much more skating and less time to coast. I know some forwards who absolutely hate playing D. They say it's much more difficult and taxing.
blueliner27 12 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I'm D. I love shooting from blueline. Thought I'm not a big shooter. I was once a center who really needs to be agile but not me. I'm slow. Well, being a defenceman does not necessary mean all those who are slow players are capable of playing this position but I think D is a perfect fit for me. One more reason that I become D is that I suck at 1 on 1.
Patrick67 1 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I actually like playing every position from Forward to goalie. I'm a pretty decent "sniper" but it's actually just as big a rush to make a good save as it is to score a goal. (IMO ofcourse)I'd say forward and goalie are equally fun while defense comes in last for me.
Guitarmy 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 My favorite position to play is left wing or center. I love shooting and scoring goals, nothing beats the exhilaration of streaking down the wing and launching a well aimed rocket top shelf.I'm not the biggest fan of playing defense, and I can't imagine why anyone would enjoy having pucks shot at him. Scurvy 3 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I'm a center or wing (can play both sides). For me, I love handling the puck and making plays. I'm a little too small to play D and don't plan on playing goal.
clarke-BOH 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I'm a center and I like it because it gives me the best of both worlds. I've played every position including goalie when i played through minor hockey, and by playing center I can make a big difference if I'm making plays on offense, or helping out the defense down low in our own end. mack 44 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 RW. I won't lie, I liked the lack of defencive responsibility because I blocked a shot once on accident and didn't like it. That's obviously not the big plus, but I like coming down the wing and cutting in to crash the net.
shifter 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I like D because its like the point guard in basketball!! But I also like RW because you get to score! My position is power forward basically. Like to play d and forward at the same time =D

chk hrd 164 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I like playing Wing, doesn't matter if it's left or right. I don't have the greatest hands and I've never liked taking face offs. The best part of my game is hashing it out in front of the net and winning battles in the corners. I'm pretty good at getting passes to guys and setting things up in the O zone. jjtt99 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I like playing centre. It's a very strategic position that has a lot of latitude and responsibility.
crazylegs_9 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Center, I just love to cover the ice, and not be held to one side or area for the most part.
Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 It takes a certain mentality and physical wellbeing to play a quality center...neither of which I have. I envy you uber-athletes. To be able to play solid D and also carry and be creative with the puck, AND take faceoffs. Needless to say, during pickup when I'm next to roll on the bench, and somebody shifting off says, "Middle" then I'm not terribly psyched.
mattzilla 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I love playing D. Nothing feels better than shutting down the opposing teams best player and just pestering him into a horrible game or some dumb penalties, i'll do whatever needs to be done. every defensemen has his little tricks ( most of them dirty and the ref cant see em), and i love using all mine.I have a big slapshot that i love to unload from the point.I love the banging in front of the net, i love blocking shots. Being 6'5 and about 220, i just like being an opposing figure on the blueline.

Now I love it cause I can do the things you just mentioned. Definitely grew into the role there....it's a lotta fun. I've also learned I'm pretty good at faceoffs too :) My finishing skills leave a bit to be desired, but I find my playmaking/passing abilities work best when I'm in the middle. DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Despite not being the uber-athlete that hook describes a center as, I find a way to get things done on both ends of the puck and win my fair share of faceoffs. Definitely more of a defensive center, however, since I play D on another team as well. I'm excited for that season to start up though, as playing center over the summer has made me a bit more patient with the puck, and I'm hoping to be a bit more offensive minded this season. There's also nothing quite like blocking a shot, or breaking up an odd-man rush. bobovski 1 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I'm totally with Dr. Hook on this one...I really love to play defense. Too bad I won't be playing it in my upcoming league...LW for me. Problem is...I have no idea how to really play wing outside of my own zone :(
DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 that's ok, most wingers' problem is that they don't know how to play within their own zone. You've got a leg up on them.
bobovski 1 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Heh, I learned from being annoyed with other wingers who were always in my face when I got the rare opportunity to shoot while playing D.
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 RW. I'm a LH shot...but I find I have more luck cutting in from the Right side.
Cobra2717 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Defense, all my life. Im an extremely offensive minded defenseman, so I like to rush the puck a bit, and I shoot from the point/tops of circles/anywhere  I love playing 1-on-1 and battling in the corners in my own end, and throwing the starting pass on the breakout, or taking it out of my zone myself. Jarick 5 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I'm a winger, haven't really committed to one side or the other although my inkling is RW (left hand shot).I just love scoring goals, setting up passes, putting pressure and keeping the puck in the offensive zone. I don't like backchecking or floating a lot so center is my weak position. And being a little guy who's pretty fast, I'm better at wing than D. Of course, nothing quite like drawing 2 or 3 guys to your side allowing the other wing to break out or stealing the puck for a breakaway (which I usually miss). fastbrother7 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 For me its center. Im 5'7" 185 and still fast, and I find that being short and playing center go hand in hand:) I get around the ice and get to the net easily.

Problem is...I have no idea how to really play wing outside of my own zone :(I would say when in doubt, rush the net when going into the offensive zone and plant yourself. Even when a winger causes traffic in front of the net, he'll be in the goalie's face and that may open up opportunities for shooters.Oh, and get the heck out of the way on point shots, or at least tip it!
