Best Non-Tapered Shaft?

Recommended Posts

What blade do you pair with the R6?

And where are all of you people finding these Redlite XN10s?!?!?! No retailer or website (that I know of) has them. Hockeygiant, hockeymonkey, epuck, inlinewarehouse, totalhockey.net, hockey.lax.com, hockeyworld.com...none of these sites have senior Redlite XN10.

I am about ready to settle for an R6 but I have read much less about it than the redlite xn10.

There's one on ebay in regular flex for $90 BIN price

I didn't like the XN10 so much...shaft didn't have much "pop" and it torqued when loading.

I see them for sale around here in stiff flex a lot, still full retail so they never move.

After looking at the TPS website, I see that the R6 and R8 shafts are the same length...why is this?

The R6 is standard which means the blade hosel is going to be longer resulting in me having to cut the shaft down. I am concerned that this will defeat the purpose that I have in purchasing a whip flex shaft in the first place.

The last shaft I bought (One90) was too long and I ended up having to cut it down to a 105 flex from an 87.

Tapered TPS blades are now long hoseled.

I did not know that. Yay for guys taller than 5' trying to get sticks to length with 6" of wood on the handle.

I have a nice stock of RLXN10, OPS versions with Hull pattern, and Easton UL's with MMZB graphics, none of which are for sale. :)

Why must you tease me with those z-bubbles? <_<

Yeah, you gave me the heads up, too bad that store didn't have any in whip flex left in stock.

Ditto the RedLite XN10. Note for Inno1100 in rubber band flexes as well.

1100 in 300 flex, square shaft with polarfiber - best standard shaft i've ever used

i have to second that one. i used to shave the wooden hosel down on my blades to get the shaft closer to the ice- long before there was a synergy. that low kick was tha shiz. i am definitely a fan of the TPS product as well-- except for the XN10R2 that snapped at the kick point after about 20 shots, but in general i have always like the TPS product. Inno for sure though! i had a stash of the 440s for a while- pure comedy. great for getting a shot off fast while in traffic or off balance.

Tapered TPS blades are now long hoseled.

I always thought that the shorter hosel helped with lowering the kickpoint with tapered shafts, psychologically you would think this, but does it mean it has always been a gimmick?

along time ago my innovative rep and i had a conversation about shaving the hosel on wood blades. i asked him if it was of benefit because, i felt like the release was quicker. he told me that Kariya and Selanne had been doing that for a while. in short there is less/shorter shaft to flex and release- less lag=quicker release.

shaving the hosel?

is that the part that goes into the shaft?

wouldnt it weaken the blade, or make it easier for it to come loose, with less connection and all?

i shaved the bevel and dropped the hosel. if you have a good blade with fibreglass strips running through it can be done. tricky sometimes, but a dremel is a great tool. btw- my old skates would give me the worst callus on my big toe, so i would take the dremel and grind it off! lol! how many of you did not need to read that???

Well I just got my One90 shaft and I must say I like the weight and the balance. The extra length isn't too much of a problem for me since I'm 6'0". Maybe it'll help me with my poke check? Hopefully I'll be able to score plenty of goals with it this season.

I've been breaking tapered shafts and blades lately and I'm going to go back to standard.

Has anyone used the 77 flex One90 shaft? Is it pretty close to 75 on the Easton scale?

Also, a LHS has Cyclone 70 flex shafts for $40 on clearance. Would that be quite a bit whippier than the 77 flex Bauer or do you think it's worth a shot?
