Smelly Gloves

I got a sample at the show last year, it's less effective than any off the shelf hand sanitizer.

There is a product that showed up in Calgary just before Christmas 2007 called Hockey Suds. Anybody try it, and does it work?

Eliminates odour causing bacteria from your hands caused by hockey gloves.

Do your hands smell from wearing hockey gloves even after washing them with regular soap or after showering? Some players’ hands will smell hours after washing, and for others, they will still smell the next day.

Washing your hands with Hockey Suds after the game will eliminate the odour caused by bacteria in your gloves. Even hours after washing!

Once you try it you won’t be able to live without it (and neither will your family and friends).

Fabreeze Anti-microbial after every game. 3-4 sprays inside the glove, leave them out to air dry and I haven't had any problems. Regular Fabreeze is just an odor eliminator, anti-microbial kills bacteria that can lead to staph.

I use a product called Funk Free inside of my gloves after every couple of games. Spray it in there, set the gloves out in the bed of my truck while I am at work to bask in the sunlight....and no ill odors since.

You can also use it directly on your hands, the stuff is fantastic.

Interesting. I never tried it for direct skin contact. But spraying on my gear and leaving it out in the sun to evaporate out the moisture from both my game and the Funk Free....leaves my gear pretty fresh smelling. As a profuse sweater, I have tried the full gamut of stench cutting materials.....this stuff takes the cake.

Here's an interesting one:

CCM Vector Pros, $125, awesome glove, goatskin palms, wreaked like the devil after two skates. Used shaving cream with lanolin, Febreeze antimicrobial, dryer sheets, leaving them out in the sun, they still smell.

Bauer Apollos, $40, cheap version of Vapor V's, nylon and foam, mystery palm, smelled like cheap glue until about 20 skates, now they smell like pretty much nothing.

My buddy's Vapor X's also don't smell at all. Must be whatever they're using for palms.

I think you are confusing it with Esporta, which is water-based and is essentially a big washing machine. Sani-Sport uses ozone and tea tree oil. It smells like cherries.

When I had my stuff Sani-sport-ed, my BODY smelled like cherries for at least a day after every game, through at least one shower. It took months before that effect mostly went away. My gear didn't stink, but I smelled like a metrosexual.

Well, I'm gonna go buy some of this stuff on the way home from work now!

Put a sheet of bounce in each glove after you use them. And to get the smell off of your hands? Shaving cream. Shower then wash your hands will shaving cream. I'm telling ya it works. I've done it for years and years. If it doesn't work I'll buy you new gloves myself.

Cook them.

That may sound weird, but I do that with my dog's collar to get the smell out of it, when I give her a bath . I've never tried this with any hockey equipment (never had the need).

Either boil a big pot of water, put some soap in it, and soak the gloves in it. Or use the microwave (but make sure they are submerged in water or at least wet, and don't microwave if your gear has metal parts).

LOL!

Not a good idea for hockey gloves.

We've had similar discussions a bunch of times here but for some reason, this one made the little light bulb go off over my head. After talking to a couple people, I think I may be able to flesh this one out. I need to get a working prototype up and running though.

The other day I was thinking about some sort of wicking glove liner. Like under armour or something. At worst, your skin isn't touching the glove and it would cut down on the moisture going into the glove. Although, nothing will prevent any from getting into the glove. Thus drying is still necessary... but maybe not as long. Maybe some sort of anti-bacterial material like in the higher end elbow pads.

A wicking liner would move it from your hand and into the material of the glove making it more waterlogged in the long run.

if you custom order a pair of MIA's on miasports.com, then they offer a certain thing to go in the palm of a glove i think they call it silver sheild, or something , but it is supposed to be some anti bacterial type thing to prevent odour, custom MIA's ( i guess they are warriors now ) are really expensive though

I still find the best combination for the palm is steam-cleaning, followed by a lanolin shaving gel scrub via toothbrush.

Everything else gets isopropynol followed by NOK-Out.

That's like any time I'd go to buy the ol' ball and chain something from Bath and Body Works. I would walk in by myself, looking semi-uncomfortable, and the ever-helpful employees would come up and go "Well, what kind of scent do you or your partner prefer?"

Back on topic...

The best stuff I've found is called Glove Hands, and I know it's available in the Columbus area. And, as one former ECHL player who developed it will gladly demonstrate, you can use it as a vanilla-tasting breath spray as well.
