Calling for a Drop Pass

Recommended Posts

From the bench, I usually like to play with players heads.

Saying, hey man your chin straps un-done, or hey your skates untied...

"Hey, got something on your jersey, man." Points, lifts finger. Laughs.

If the guy is dumb enough to actually drop it to you then it's his own fault for not being aware. Saying that is unsportsmanlike is like saying not warning a guy your coming before you hit him is unsportsmanlike. You have to have awareness in hockey, no matter the situation.

You guys are really caught up in the whole "awareness" issue. Beleive me, those of us who are well aware of bush league antics, and don't fall for childish games still consider you guys bush league.

Bottom line, I don't want to win that way. I'm just a beer leaguer, and at the end of the day, right or wrong, my opinion on all this doesn't really matter. -BUT, I still don't want to win that way.

When on the bench and one of the other teams forwards has to look down to receive a pass I like to shout HEAD UP or MAN ON so that they think theyve been given a suicide pass this has bought some rather hilarious results.

the way I have always looked at it is say what you want and do what you feel out there but be ready for retrobution. You piss a player or a team off then don't piss and moan when they come looking for you to pay you back. If you embarrass someone or a team to bad keep your head up because someone is looking to take it off.

haha I do this all the time. If I'm watching the point and his guy is in the corner, I'll yell POINT and they usually pass it...which means interception for me :)

If they're dumb enough to pas it to the point without looking...well they deserve to get picked off. 'Tis what the game of hockey is all about :)

I've done it before.

If they're dumb enough to fall for it, then so be it.

My voice really carries when I yell so I KNOW people hear me and I yap on the ice. A few times I've scored because of it, but at the same time I know I have to keep my head up because the other team will be looking for me.

That's the way I play.

Do it during pick-up, non-competitive games where everyone's friendly. Don't do it in serious league play.

I think it's the other way around - it's a pretty dick move to do in pick-up, I mean it's just pick up, why bother?

In a real game that's when I figure it is alright to take as much advantage as you can to win the game, and if that means calling for a drop pass that's what it means

I agree though, someone is probably going to come after you in a real game if you try it, but if you don't want to deal with that then...well, I wouldn't suggest trying it.

I fell for it once and it turned around to be a goal for them. My team had a really good laugh at my expense thou since we only won one game the entire year the goal didnt matter, it was probably the 12th of the period or something.

I'll do it during pick up games just to yank the chain of people I've played with for years. I did it Sunday to Mike (a goalie I've played with and against for years) just cause I knew he'd get the joke.

During a competitive game, nah. Seems too much like cheating for me.

I don't do the "drop it!" thing too much but one thing I love to do from the bench is yell "4...3...2...1!" when a guy is coming across center ice trying to penetrate our zone. Usually this results in him taking a shot from the red line....lol.

I'll yell less time than is on the clock....that's about it....

Doing the "drop it" stuff in drop in is for sucks...everyone has a different jersey...what are you proving?
