07/08 NHL gear sightings

Recommended Posts

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but Ryan Hollweg on the Rangers has some weird straps on his helmet. They look like they are some sort of leather or something similar to that. I saw him in the Caps-Rangers game today and it was just something I noticed.

Picture #18 has a good view

The only guys that I have seen them were 'fighters' back in the day (Odjick, McCarthy) and Messier. My guess is if the helmet was thrown off the straps wouldn't break.

Fixitbymail.com sells them.

Wasn't about straps breaking, it was about the helmet coming off easier as it is a softer leather.

Not NHL, but a Photo from the AHL all star game. Denis Hamel is wearing what appears to be MIA gloves, but branded as RBK. Not sure how this was pulled off, as I know the AHL have to use RBK and CCM products, except for skates and some sticks. Interesting none the less here's the link to the photo, if someone wants to post it up on here please do, I am terrible with posting pics.

do a lot of players switch skates in between periods?

I was at the leafs/detroit game a few weeks back and Blake came out with the Vapor 30 skates in the first period and then was wearing 40's the next. I do not usually look at players gear to much so I do not know but when I did notice it struck me as odd.

theres a pair of black MIAs with RBK on the cuff on ebay. I think it's from the goalie crease, so expect them to be pricey.

Anybody else notice Marc Savard's full-out wardrobe overhaul these past couple weeks? Dude went from NBH helmet, Warrior Johnson and one95 skates to CCM bucket, Vector 10.0 skates and what looks like a one-piece AK27..these things happen but it did seem strange to see a guy go from NBH to CCM skates mid-season, given the differences between the two brands.

Maybe his NBH contract expired.

Could be that the equipment manager in Binghampton wants the gloves to look like that...

The other players are using the standard RBK gloves, must be hamel pulled some strings to get those gloves.

TBL Fan,

Looks like those gloves are gone, I searched ebay and couldnt find them. Oh well my new RBK gloves should be here today.

On a side note, Is it possible to have gloves made by MIA/Warrior whatever they are called now, and have them Branded as RBK or whatever? It still baffles me they do this, figure no exposier for the maker when another brand is slapped on it.

BTW. Do you live in Tampa? My wifes uncle lives in Tampa, and we are planning maybe next year to go down for a visit during hockey season so we can get to a lightning game ( hopefully Rangers and Lightning). I was in Tampa about 4 years ago, checked out the arena etc.. Anyhow I guess my wifes uncles business has a suite for the games.

rustpot, thanks for the foto, I had brought this up in another thread quite a while ago just didn't have any pics. I guess he must have had a contract with MIA since he spent last year in the NHL. thanks again for the foto.

Im seeing more and more one95's coming out in the NHL. I see that they are still putting the red tuuk holders on instead of the new blue ones. Anyone think this looks better?

Holy shit, Forsberg's in a size 58 jersey? I though he was smaller than that. What's in his hand in the last pic?

Modano wears a 60 and is probably 25 lbs. less.
