Philly Strikes once again.

Recommended Posts

Folks have a hard time taking Howe seriously when he comments about respect since he is just as famous for throwing elbows as he is for longevity and scoring.

I agree. You bring up a good point too, Howe was a complete player. He could score & kick your ass. You really don't see that anymore.

I like how Lindy Ruff handled the situation with Chris Neil and the Sens. He put his "goons" out and had them rough up their stars. Next time someone on Philly pulls that shit the other team should drop the hammer on Briere. Colin Cambell has proved over and over again how useless he is, it's time the players start respecting each other and start policing themselves.

That move by Ruff was a bush league maneuver. If you really want to show how tough you are then you send out your power forward type guys to exact justice, not the knuckle draggers.

I disagree. Look at the reaction it got from Murray. He was crying bloody murder. And what did the Sabres players do anyway, guys like Mair and Gaustad confronted those guys face to face, nothing "dirty". I remember Mair telling Heatly "I'm gonna hit you". Murray didn't like people beating up on his skilled players, that's all. Bush league maybe, but it struck a chord and sent a message. Screw with my talented players and I'll go after every one of yours. In the end it's really simple, if Colin Campbell did his job, this wouldn't be an issue.

Anyway, kind of a mute point at the moment. The Sabres are a bunch of pussies right now anyway. Key to beating them is to hit them.

Sorry for the rant.

I don't cosider Peters a hockey player. I was speaking of Mair & Gaustad. Peters is a no talent dick head. It's mind numbing that he's in the NHL.

Murray should have been crying bloody murder. You've got the Buffalo goon squad trying to rag doll a guy like Heatly who wears an oversized visor to protect a permanent eye injury. You don't like how a ruffian treats your star player then you let your knuckle dragger fight him, you're checking line finishes hits on their stars, you don't pull the Lindy Ruff goon show.

I agree with Brooks. That's scary.

The game was played differently in the 80s/90s with the clutching and grabbing. However, a good friend of mine who was in the middle of breaking up a few of those scrums, considers those players as tougher. He believes the lack of respect the players have for each other today is bs. The players forget there will be life after and away from the rink when their career is over. A lot of them will end up like Keith Primeau/Pat Lafontaine on the early retirement/post concussion plan. The players are just meat-on-the-hoof to the owners and the league. Its really up to the NHLPA to get their boys in line. The league will never do it.

Officiating is absolutely horrible. I clicked on for that game* and saw that and then was caught wondering how and why Georges got the penalties out of it. Then Eager chirped him, knowing his bitch ass wouldn't fight him. I'm glad Roberts dummied him.

It seemed like Roberts noticed that Eager was getting nothing so he just went after him.

I also enjoyed how later in the game when guys like Ruutu were trying to start something the Flyers wouldn't do anything but they had no problems going after Armstrong and Whitney.

I just can't wait for someone to take a really nasty run at that elf Briere. There's no one on Philly who can actually fight, so they won't know how to retaliate anyway. Well, other than bush league crap that they already try now.

Yeah, that stuff was happening all over the place. It just so happened that the Flyers, in normal Philadelphia as a whole fashion, went after those guys and not the big ones.

Also, Georges' baseball slide into Biron was classic.

A little late to the party here but agreed 100%. All that garbage at the end of that game would have been avoided had the dipshit officials simply given Eager the 2 minutes (or more) that he deserved.

Roberts is awesome. I f--cking loved seeing him fight Eager. When you talk about a player with HEART Roberts is it. I don't care how much I may hate the team he's playing for, I'll always be a fan of his.

Roberts is a schlop now, but I have to say no one deserves a punch while down more than Eager and I give Roberts all the credit in the world for going after him and taking him down (and giving him that last punch when he was on the ice, haha)

Stuff like that is why Recchi was put on waivers and Roberts wasn't, even though both have equally sucked offensively this year. That was quite the shot after they were both down though.

Are you serious? That was one of the biggest pussy moves I have seen. Lost a bit of respect for Laraque. Pretty suprising considering BGL has preached the CODE for a long time.

Absolutely true. If you aren't going to score you have to bring something else to the table. Roberts does, Recchi doesn't.

You all are making a bigger deal out of Eager's hit on Laraque because the commentator acted like it was a big deal. It really wasn't. If he commentator didn't flip out and call it a cheap shot, none of you would be flipping out. It was no different than any other player hitting someone up high. I'm not even convinced he got him with his elbow.

Everyone is just watching the Flyers and waiting for a player's shoelace to trip the other team so they can jump all over them.

The biggest reason I noticed the Eager hit was a combination of the elbow, who it was on, and his actions in the box. I don't pay much attention to announcers in highlights. I couldn't care less what they thought.

It wasn't just an elbow, it was a charge, and then his roadrunner-like escape from the pile.

And I didn't particularly think it was a big deal outside of the fact he somehow avoided a minor penalty he deserved while Laraque sat for 4—setting the stage for 15 minutes of sillyness to finish out the game.

It's the same type of play that has resulted in suspensions for other guys. He deserved the same penalty as Cote for his charge and elbow to the head a couple weeks ago.
