Game Preperation

Recommended Posts

- Air out my hockey gear because I'm one of those people that don't take their hockey gear after each practise/game. Then pack my gear.

- Do 20 pressups on a balance board and get my balance on each leg.

- I sometimes change the curve on my sticks with a heat gun. Nothing too serious, just a reasonably deep mid curve with an open toe.

- Stickhandling with a stickhandling ball.

- Watch hockey videos (mainly WCH 04 final, Ovechkin/Iginla highlights)

- This is quite new. Read that Habs practise crasher article.

- Take a dump/piss.

- Drink Red Bull.

- Go to the hockey rink.

- Get changed L-R.

- Tape my hockey sticks and wax them.

- Listen to some music.

Show up 2 hours before the game (iam usualy always first.. just me and

the coaches :D)

- Go outside our room and stickhandle an empty chewing tobacco case. I finde it kind of resembles a puck, its light, and it slides well on the rubber floors.

- Go inside and watch whatever is on the tv. Tape stick if need be (i hardly ever tape my sticks)

- Get dressed and drink a red bull

- Go back outsidethe dressing room and stickhandle the container again.

- caoch talks to us

- warm up. we skate circles in the beginning and shoot on the net. one by one people stop to stretch, iam usualy one of the last to do so.

- Go back to the room while the zamboni is on and just focus on what iam going to do in the game.

- go out and play!

- Have trouble sleeping the night before

- Eat a breakfast while listening radio or reading the local newspaper

- In the winter I go to the outside rink before almost everygame...

- Check my skates and make them sharpened by my dad

- 15-45 min. of stickhandling in my hockey room...(I'll show you pics of my hockey room soon, it's pretty crazy)

- Sometimes, I take couple of shoot in my net

- Tape my stick and make sure all my equipment is in my hockey bag

- Going to the rink, I try to catch sports radio show

- Nothing special at the rink before the game, sometimes I stickhandle a bit with a ball.

- During the warmup, try to impress every fans with my stickhandling while all opponents players want to crush me because of my white skates and they say I'm a puck eater...

what are your Stickhandling Skills? tell us what you can do and get some vids if possible

I guess you haven't been part of this board long enough. Kovy has major dangles and post vids sometimes.

So what is your routine before a game??

I play 16u AAA hockey. I work at the rink so all of my gear is there... For an 8pm game, I usually go out and shoot for 30 minutes around 2 pm. Then around 4 I eat a huge steak and cheese sub in the food court (ice rink is in a shopping mall). Drink water constantly till around 7. Then around 7:30 I hit the ice and stretch about 15 mins, take a few slappers, skate a few laps, shoot some wristers. Then I just stickhandle and practice my crosby move until game time. pretty boring huh?

Oh BTW if i don't wear my labatt blue boxers i totally suck during the game!

Pre-game dump. (There is nothing worse then sitting on the bench, and realizing you have to take a dump.)

Get my gear together, and tape my sticks.

Take a few shots in the driveway if I have time.

Listen to my pump-up playlist on the way to the rink.

Get to the rink 45 minutes to an hour before the game. I can't stand putting my gear on in a hurry.

Stretch and warm-up while I think about the game.

Back when I played, I'd be in the locker room one hour before a game...lay out my stuff, throw in a bomb and just dress slowly and get acclimated to the equipment...

Pre-gamer, walk to rink from school, throw in a lipper, stretch/kick around soccer ball with the boys, get dressed with the ipod, go out and snipe.

Pre-game dump, is a part of the mind-trick your body plays on you just before a game.

Is all in corralation to how nervous you are.

e.g. At important weekend tournaments, I have to take a dump before every game, even though it means I'm going to the toilet 3-4 times in a 12 hour span.

Ofcourse this has also something to do with, a bigger food and water consumption + increased metabolism during/after games.

While at pratice games my body acts naturally.

Take a nap.

Eat pasta.

Go into town with friends, bring a smartHockey ball and toy with it untill everyone is annoyed.

Get to the rink early. I have to setup the sound system and give the prizes to the guys that run chuck a puck and stuff... cause otherwise they are hopeless.

Re-tape my stick just because.

Run a stone over my blades.

Take a dump.

I'm missing a lotta other stuff. And if I miss anything, I won't play as well.

Try to finish work at a decent time.

Have dinner with the wife and kid. Eat whatever the wife makes. Compliment her on how tasty it is regardless of what I think of it.

Give the kid a bath.

Put the kid to sleep.

Get to the rink 20 min before the game so I have time to get dressed and not miss the face off.

The rest of you guys must not have any kids!! :(

And for all you that think I'm whipped cuz I'm doing all that with the kid, on the bright side I get to stay and watch the late league games with the team while drinking beer. :)

It depends on when the game is.

I get to the rink early and check out the ice.

Drink my homemade gatorade and do some shoulder stretches.

Tape my sticks and wax them.

Put in my contacts.

Start up the music.

Then I put my gear on in the same order:

Underarmour sports bra, Jill, Underarmour shirt, Underarmour socks. Then hockey socks. Then hockey pants. Then I do up my skates. I do them up, I take a walk in them, do some stretches, then tighten them.

Then my shin pads, tape the socks and shin pads. STand up, tighten pants. Then shoulder pads. Elbow pads. Jersey. Neck guard. Mouth guard. Helmet.

I keep my gloves off until I do warm ups because I keep my inhalers in my gloves.

Then I do three laps, one easy, one hard, one backwards and stretch with the rest of the gals.

Then we take shots on our goalie, do the horseshoe and do 2on1s.

Then its GAME TIME

You have asthma? Isn't that hard? There is a girl at my church that was on sponsorship for Michigan Tech but then they found out she had asthma and dropped the offer.
