What was your first pair of skates?

Recommended Posts

Bauer Black Panther 81s replaced quickly by some Bauer 2000s after being in the trunk of a flooded car.

No idea what I used as a kid, I remember CCM's, and that's about it.

As an adult, Vapor VI's, and they didn't last long at all.

Redells with the white aluminum frame, H-200, I think. Then I stepped up to a pair of Bauer pro comps with H 400s. First Ice skates were Bauer 5000s, then Mission pure flys.

my first skates were blue double-blades with an icon of He-Man on the sides. my first actual hockey skates were bauers... no idea what kind, but i imagine they were really cheap, since i was like 4, and probably grew out of them mid-season.

CCM Rapides. On sale at the grocery store.

The fact that you live in a location where grocery stores sell hockey skates is badass in itself.

Some Rally's that one of my older brothers left to rot in the basement. Way too big and not nearly enough support.

First real skates were Lange's with the old steel runners.

Had some nice CCM Mustangs for a while. First pair of skates with tuuks. I loved those skates, brown leather and and all. Had to be late 70's.

CCM Super Tacks from my brother's friend. They were 3-4 sizes too big for me. I wore six pairs of socks, laced em' as tight as I possibly could with a lace tightener, and skated on my ankles. 1982.

After that it was all Bauer with skates laced so tight they cut off my circulation (because I never learned to lace and wear them properly). I had to take them off between periods and sometimes between shifts they hurt so bad.

A pair of Cooper Roos with clear Tuuks..............

Wow! I remember those. Taking me back.....

I can't believe no one has mentioned Daust skates (unless I missed it). Those were all the rage in the early 80's 'cause of Gretz and those blue and clear holders.

Oh sure, pick on my age......I think just about every kid that grew up in the 80`s wanted the Daoust 301`s with the blue Perfectas

My first pair were a pair of Bauers (not sure of model) with all-leather boots and tube blades. They were originally my cousin's, but he didn't really care for ice skating. They were in great shape when I got them and fit well when I started skating.

The next year, I bought my first pair of skates on my own with paper route money. They were Bauer Challengers, ordered from the J.C. Penney catalogue for $34.99. I remember how hard I had to work to convince my mother that I did NOT want to order them big to grow into. She also gave me grief because I wanted to have them sharpened when they arrived, back then she though sharpening was something extra that your skates didn't necessarily need. Sort of like air conditioning as an option for your vehicle, you don't NEED it but it's nice to have.

Except for one pair of Jofa skates with white Perfecta blades (which were apparantly made for Jofa by Daoust), I've been a Bauer wearer since I started skating in the 1979-80 season.
