best pant for tailbone protection

Recommended Posts

I did search this but most threads on the subject were a couple of years old. I am looking for new pants and need really good tailbone protection. I have a pair of Tackla 5000 ( XRS) pants that I bought around '00- '01 but they don't seem to do too well in this area. Could anyone suggest a pant that does well with the tailbone area, or are my Tackla's as good as it gets. Money and bulk are not main concerns but if I could find a pant that is not as bulky as the 5000's and protect better then I would consider it my birthday! My LHS is very limited in pants or I'd see for myself. Thanks!

I have had my feet pulled or kicked out from under me, and I have never had any pain wearing my 9K RBK's. Great hip protection, too. Came from Tackla's. They would shift around. The 9K stays where it is suppossed to be.

I vote for the RBK 9K. I've worn CCM and Tackla before these, and they are by far the best for tailbone protection I've worn. After coming back to playing after taking 8 years off, the tailbone protection on my 9K pants get alot of use. :D

How do the RBK 8K's compare to the 9K?

TBLfan, are there some CCM models that are better? I 'd assume the more upper end the better? Thanks for the inputs !!!

Easton has always made really protective pants. I am not too familiar with the newer models that Easton is selling but my favorite pants, as far as tailbone protection is concerned, were my 2004 Easton Airs. Pants have changed a lot though within the past four years so, my input probably isn't the best. Your best bet is to go to a shop and look at several different models and see which ones have the best protection.

I had 692s and they were too bulky for my liking. At that point the tailbone protection is pretty much standard. I think the 492 has the soft foam as the tailbone protector. 692 is hard and surprisenly comfortable.

What is going on with these? Are they mean to have a shell worn over them or what?

The One90 has a pretty stiff tailbone protector as well, much more than the mid-level Stealth S5 pants I'm wearing now.

I would imagine all of the top end pants are very protective, and you'd probably be best off trying them all one to see which ones fit best and slide around least so the tailbone protector works best for you.

I love my 9K pants. The Shell is all messed up though, and RBK doesn't sell replacement shells. I switch from team shell to rbk shell. These pants/girdle is awsome. Highly recomended.

I'm a big dude, and bust my coccix before on cheap bauer 1000 pants. I went and got Itech HP 8000.

Best pants I've ever put on (of course I've only had 4 brands on in my life)

Great spine and tailbone protection. Snug without being too tight, leg zippers, good hip and kidney protection too.

I love them

CCM, hands down.

+1. I have a pair of Ranger pro stock CCM's and they have excellent tailbone protection

+2 I use a pair of CCM 892 Tack pants and couldn't be happier. The 892:s are the model under CCM's top end pant the Pro Tacks.

Used to wear 692's and my thoughts are exactly the same. Thought they were too heavy as well.

Moved onto RBK 5K's recently. The tailbone protection is better and more form fitted.

You were asking about the Franklin Pro Returns. Can't help you there, but I bought a pair of Franklin 7800's from Hockeyworld two years ago and love them.

I play high level gentleman's and came from playing college hockey and they are as good as any I have ever owned. They are light, not bulky and have good protection all over. I have taken many a bang or bump and have yet to feel any pain.

They are a little worn, but I play 4x a week year round so that is expected after 2 years of use. Told my buddy who played high level senior a few years ago about them and he bought a pair and loves them too.

For the price, I would highly recommend them.

Thanks to everyone for their expertise ! I ordered a pair of the Franklin Pro Stock ( returns) from Hockeyworld for $89. I decided to see if I could spend less, if I don't like the look I'll just wait until my LHS gets the 9K or One90 in, which could be awhile.

If Tackla 5000s don't have enough tailbone protection, nothing is going to help you.
