MALKIN: OVECHKIN WILL BE THE MVP

The Pittsburgh Penguins leader Evgeny Malkin speaks to Sport Express after he met with Russian national team head coach Vyacheslav Bykov.

The Russian side’s coaches travel to America in order to assess the situation with Russian players, who continue struggling for entering NHL play-offs.

The team head coach Vyacheslav Bykov attended the Pittsburgh match against New York Rangers as Evgeny Malkin’s club suffered a 1-2 overtime defeat.

"The fight for the Stamley Cup hots up now and all the teams play very accurately in defense", said Malkin to Sport Express.

"That is why almost all games end in overtime or shootout series."

"It’s not easy to play two games against one team in two days and we tired a little bit, but I have no doubts we will improve by the start of play-offs."

"I still have chances to become the MVP this season, however I am sure that Alexander Ovechkin is the best player in NHL this season and he will win this award."

"He is a leader of his club as he leads his partners to play-offs, that is why I have no chances to become the season’s MVP."

My man Malkin needs to start speaking English or atleast make an attempt to. I've heard him answer a few questions and it was very hard to understand him. He speaks the truth though, he does have a shot to win the MVP but if AO takes his team into the playoffs I think he for sure has it locked up.

Considering he didn't know a single word of English when he came to America, Malkin has made big steps towards speaking the language. I'm sure when he has to talk alot he talks in Russian to Gonchar, but I know he can talk some hockey talk and order food at restraunts and things of that nature for himself.

At any rate, that article just doesnt have proper English and I'd need to slap somebody if it wasn't ran through a translator or wasn't written by someone whose first language is not English either.

It's from a russian language site. They have a tab on the top that you can click for the english version.

This is what it gave me

I remember seeing an interview with jagr when he first came to the states. Nobody pronounced his name right and all the answers to questions he was asked went something like: I love hockey. He had like five words he could say. If you put me in another country they would be making fun of me too. HEll i barely passed my college spainish and still cant spell in english.

English has to be one of the hardest languages to master. We have so many influences its not funny.

In saying all of the above, I don't think anyone would have an issue understanding what Malkin was saying. Ovy's MVP status would pretty much speak for itself these days.

Just curious...How much of his language are you able to speak before accusing him of not even attempting to speak English...The way you describe it is like it's learning to tie a shoelace but he's just too lazy to do it.

Attic Greek has it whipped. I am in a world of hurt. :(

Ovechkin is the MVP. No question. He's leading the league in goals and points, he's up there in hits, and anyone who tries to tell me he isn't the emotional core of his team is a lying sonofagun,.

The Caps only had their captain on the ice for 18 games this season. Someone had to step up and lead them.

Ever tried to learn Chinese? Characters and Pin Yin make it two in the form of one! ;-)

Hmm, I think english is the easiest language to master and probably why it's the most widly spread 2nd language. It's also the most convenient language to learn for travelling and business purposes, so saying it's the hardest one... come on.

With all the slang, it's the toughest to learn. You could get rudimentary English down to serve you on travels, but to actually master it is something daunting.

No, it's considered one of the hardest to learn and the only reason it's so widespread is because of business.

Actually, English is quite difficult to master. Just ask anyone who speaks it as a second language. There are more grammatical rules and such than you can shake a stick at. And then you toss in the slangish type phrases, words having multiple and unrelated meanings based on context, and the identical sounding words.

Also most non-english speaking countries learn the language from a real early age, it's quiet embaressing having a 12 year old kid help translate things for you when your in another country. :(

German, then English I would say are hardest to master as a 2nd language.

Although both are easier when submersed in the culture.

I learned more German living in Oldenburg for a few months than I did in 6 years of secondary school

What exactly do you think is so hard about German?

Actually, I speak it as a second language, I'm french. I'm just stating an opinion and comparing english to french. There's slang in every language, so I don't really think it's a factor. But I learned english at 4 years old, living in Borden, Ontario, so I can't really judge based on my situation. I think it's wide spread because of business also, but I think it's used in business because it's easier for everyone to learn.

I think Malkin is being a bit modest. In saying that, I think Ovie would get the nod if the Caps manage to crawl in the playoffs.

However MVP is the player that makes greatest impact on the team and when Sid the Kid went down, Malkin answered the call. Both are deserving IMO.

I think it's a toss up between these 2 dependent on whether the Caps make the playoffs

The grammar, the sex of words, are different to english. English might be a germanic language, but in german, the grammar is completely different. You have to learn the case and plural of every noun, and verb, and it's just very confusing.

I speak english and Irish fluently. I studied german for 6 years in school, but it was way beyond anything I could pick up in the class.

Like I said, when I was there, it was a lot easier to pick up, but I probably picked up a lot of bad habits/slang too, that would fail me in most exams
