Least Restrictive Shoulder pads?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure there has been a topic like this before... but when I searched it I couldn't find anything... Anyways...

I'm 5'10 about 160 lbs and I have used:

- Easton Synergy series S/P's

- Nike Quest series

- Bauer Supreme series

- Older CCM Tacks series

I'm considering looking at the RBK (newer) series and also the NBH models... I'm just wondering what other people like...

I have not found a pair of shoulders I like with decent protection, have been using the Sherwood "classic" style for awhile, however I am planning on skating with the MAHL or College Club and will need something a little more sufficient.

Bauer Lightspeeds are very good. Good balance between weight, protection, and mobility. However, the new vapor xxxx look even better, you may want to wait till they come out.

hockeyworld.com

they have tons of older shoulder pads in stock that are pretty damn cheap as well

I picked up a real simple pair of sherwood classics there last year for 14.99

Yeah I work for Hockey World... but I need something with great mobility and Good shoulder protection vs the Sherwood classic pads... I love the sherwoods but I think for MAHL/College Club I'm going to need something a little bit more protective...

If I could find some older Jofa's I would consider those... but as of now I'm looking at the RBK and the Bauer Lightspeed....

What are Farrell's? does anyone have a pic... I have never heard/seen these..

just make some frankenpads. find a pair that fits you well in the chest area that is mobile. and then put different caps on them so you can get the protection you want.

I tried the ONE90 and wasn't a fan.... It felt REALLY top heavy on the shoulders... I don't like the Supreme series..

I am eager to try the Vapor's...

That's what I was thinking about doing....

I am very impressed with the new Vapor series. I didn't like the high end supreme series that just came out at all.

They are shoulder pads that are intended to have a tighter fit, they are made of small, individually placed foam cubes and there are adjustable shoulder caps. Essentially it's supposed to increase your range of motion and the foam acts as impact absorbtion.

they're a small company based out of MA, the guy actually got an degree from MIT for these

they dont have the biggest names yet, but Poti and Yandle have signed on

I used to use bauer 4000 shoulder pads but they were a little small and felt restrictive around the chest.

I found some bauer SB60s (now nike bauer classics) wich felt great around the chest but the shoulder caps didnt protect enough for for my liking ..

So i put the 4000's shoulder caps on the SB60s and now these pads are great!!

Good protection for the shoulders and nice mobility allaround.

I used these pads for almost 2 years now and didnt have a problem!

(I broke my collarbone 3 months ago though but i think even the best pads cant prevent things like that.)

The Bauer Classics are Identical to the SWD's.. I'm afraid that won't hold up for College Club level hockey.

The Farrell's look sick. similar to what the NEW TPS is trying to do...

That's really good advice. Most shoulders don't fit me (chest is too narrow), so I tried on everything in the store, and settled on the Itech 255's.

I wear Sher-Wood 5030 classics and they are extremely mobile. Obviously, they are not made to be the most protective though.

If I had the cash to spend on a new set of shoulder pads, I would go for the Vapor XXXXs. They are very mobile and provide excellent protection as well. Adjustable with in front as well as at the biceps add to the comfortability.

Another vote for Jofa/RBK shoulder pads. Nothing else more protective or with better fit.
