Warrior "the stroker"

Recommended Posts

Here's a serious question: what would it take from them for you guys to take them seriously? I'm curious.

Well the performance and quality speak for themselves. My Dolomite shaft, although I've only had it a few months, is fantastic. I like the performance and durability. Just grabbed a Warrior blade to see how it holds up as well.

I don't think I could use a crap brown shaft though. And the name and marketing campaign is kind of childish. I wouldn't use a price point standard shaft anyway, but if they did release the Dolomite in only crap brown, I'd probably either use something else or take a rattle can to it, which defeats the whole purpose of branding your product. And as for the crap brown gloves, I don't know who would use them since they wouldn't match 99.99% of uniforms out there.

I guess Warrior's just trying to be so unique and not taking themselves seriously that I don't either? But the Dolomite has good performance and looks somewhat normal so I like it.

Almost, except for not being having any black on there. Unless Germany just added scheisse to the mix on their flag and that wouldn't totally surprise me.

Here's a serious question: what would it take from them for you guys to take them seriously? I'm curious.

I've never been a fan of any company that makes a living marketing "lifestyle". When the products are second rate, it's a double whammy in my book.

First, I'll talk about the product:

I used Inno and I thought they were overrated, especially after they switched to pre-preg blades. I also think the warrior stuff is a step below the old Inno stuff, making it second rate and overrated at the same time. Durability has also been well below industry average from what I have seen. So, feel is down, durability is down and price is way up. That's everything I detest.

Marketing:

Obviously I'm not the intended market, so that has to be factored in to any discussion. That said, it seems like someone at Warrior is reliving his 70s childhood. Dolomite; how many kids have any clue who/what Dolomite refers to? The color scheme on the Johnson and Stroker, pure 70s schlock. When you consider the naming overall, you have a racially exploitive movie character (Dolomite), a weed reference(Kronik), a dick reference(Johnson) and a pimp reference(mac daddy). Hell, the only thing left is to call the next stick therapist, but of course they would do it like this "THErapist". Needless to say, I'm not a fan of their product naming.

Even in their dealer catalogs there was no weight or detailed information about the stick. The whole marketing campaign is sel based on the cool factor. That doesn't work well for very long, especially if you don't change the product at all. Changing the color, doesn't count.

All in all, they're a company that wants you to buy their product because they say it's the cool thing to do. Only UA has been able to work that angle so far and I really don't see warrior being able to pull it off over the long term.

I agree it does appeal to a certain teenage market, but it almost negates the ability for the product to be taken seriously.

I take the products seriously and do not hold their crappy marketing against them. I say crappy, but in reality it's pretty solid as it's a product that gets a lot of talk going for it. I mean crappy as in tasteless (even for me) and humourless and it makes me sad that people may think it's edgy and funny.

As for the product, it may not be the cream of the crop but (for me) can be had for cheaper than most other top-end companies and beats them out in durability for me. Pro stocks are more readily available and have a greater variety in flexes to go thru as well. Plus I black them out anyway so the shitty colour schemes are easily fixed.

Amen to that Chadd! Warrior has always had overrated and overpriced products. This includes lacrosse. When they came into that business, they ratcheted up the prices and the offensive marketing campaign, without much innovation in product. They also weren't much different than Torspo in ripping off other product ideas. Now that they have financial backing, they are buying their way into the hockey market.

Having to endure their sexist and racist marketing campaigns, along with the drug references in their product names, and having to explain this to my two daughters who play both lacrosse and hockey makes me angry. So, you think Warrior cannot get much lower in terms of what they won't try in marketing? Just take a look at the following article that gives a little insight into how low they can go and have gone in the past: http://www.e-lacrosse.com/2004/spin/snorrior.html I would ask that if you are offended by their practices, that you would email New Balance and let them know what you think.

My dolos have been durable for me(minus the one-use-now-it-makes-a-poping-sound delmore blade), plus they have my ideal pattern. Feel isn't amazing, pop isn't amazing but it works and I love polarfibre. Plus for $100 for the combo, I'm not complaining.

With that being said I have found that these types of things most always happen when a company is bought by another. I believe that if Warrior would spend a few more pennies to make a better product they whouldnt need the childish marketing and could still turn a HUGE PROFIT on their stuff. I totally agree tbat Inno was a better quality product than the Warrior branded products.

However I do think that they are a very smart company by aquiring Inno and MIA. Which skate company will be theirs is the million dollar question?

I believe their talking to someone. I'm not in this industry but I have learned that business is business. Why wouldnt they be looking or talking to someone? The only question is who? That would be no different than if they were to buy Cascade helmets. Just an example!!! Just adding to the lineup of gear.

I have to totally agree with this statement. Their marketing is working even if the names are getting negative feedback, people will not forget the names and will talk about the products.
