just trying to rate these skates in stiffness & volume.

Stiffness (descending order):

One95

XXXX

S15

1500C

G5?

Volume (descending order)

One95

G5

S15

1500C

XXXX?

Also a side question - what is the general consensus on Cobra 5000 holders?

Thanks!

I'm not sure why you need this info but it sounds like you are in the market for skates. Your best bet is to go into your local hockey shop and get fit. They can tell you everything you need to know.

Dream on.

They can tell him more than anybody here is willing to waste their time with :)

I think the stiffness is One95, 1500C, S15, XXXX. I have not tried on a pair of G5s so I cant add to that. I think you have the volume right.

this is interesting but having skated in both XXXX & 1500C I really don't think 40s are less stiff then 1500C?

re LHS knowing it all - I'm sure there're cases when it's true, but unfortunately I haven't come across these just yet - hence asking questions here.

The g5 is going to be a bit deceiving...they are a shorter cut than alot of those listed. Mine have defintely softened up over time though.

The 40's are less stiff than the 1500c. Your talking about graphite vs. a non graphite skate. Sure the 40's may seem a bit stiffer out of the box, but they are also higher cut and will soften up as time goes by. The 1500c will not.

I don't agree. Both pairs of my XXXXs are as stiff as the day I bought them a year ago. Also, most skates now use composite in the quarters between the liner and the outer material. Why do you think the XXXX is so stiff? It is true that the composite boot won't soften up...it will crack.

I also don't agree on the S15 being stiffer than the XXXX. That boot is soft.

like I said having skated in both XXXX & 1500C 40s are a LOT more stiff

1500c isn't completely composite - they had to put eyelets etc into something +join pieces together for which they used leather as far as I can tell

so the composite is of course hard, but not the entire skate

40s are so stiff you can't even pull quarters together, plus they use uniform matherial which is equally stiff throughout...

curious about S15 - is it really "soft"? softer then 1500C?

it isn't really an opinion on what is stiffer. It's pretty black or white when comparing facts on what structure is stiffer in comparison.

It's not like asking what is better.

XXXX doesn't use carbon as a stiffener. Dunno where you're getting this from.

Isn't the XXXX the same level stiffness (retail level 3) as the XXX ?

Retail is 2 on the NBH scale

Not carbon...isn't it a composite plastic? I didn't think it was carbon.

Hey JR--I guess I was trying to say isn't the XXX and the XXXX the same level stiffness ? I know the stiffness level increased from the XX to the XXX--I never read anywhere where that changed at all going to the XXXX.
