NHL 09

Recommended Posts

I've got to admit they are really building on a good base here. Hopefully more of the players lok like themselves this season.

I agree, it seems like they made 3 or 4 people on a team look like themselves, then didn't really bother with the rest.

The mispronunciation of names last year got pretty annoying as well.

thats gary thorne and bill clement for ya

I love how Blake's Roughing up Crosby in that Video

Totally....thank god there are actual defensive controls in this game. The lack of them really hampered '08.

from those videos, one would hope that this is from ps3 because the skating looks more like gliding like last years ps3 version, the 360 08 skating was nicer to me, hopefully im wrong...

I'm happy that there are going to be defensive controls too. It was frustrating in 08 not being able to move my stick around or lift a guy's stick like in 09.

Looks like their side deal with Reebok allowed them to get the 10k in the game. Since the list was finalized in February for 2k, would've been impossible to do. Maybe for 2k10 I can convince product managers to give me info that early.

One of the biggest things i was hoping to see in this years game were post play scrums. I hate how i can throw one into the tenders glove and stop in the crease untouched to force the faceoff. It would've been sick if they could had made user controlled scrums that could escalate into fights. At least in nhl 05 you could rough people up after the whistle a little

I can't remember. I reformatted my computer and no longer have the file with all of the product in the game. It's still an bigger list, especially with the variants (there are 15 Easton sticks alone). It would be better if their list can be completed a bit later though.

i saw there's team colours for sticks that was definitely a nice touch

is there something holding ea back from getting a massive gear list like 2K or is just them doing limited work on gear? If there's nothing holding them back I swear when I finish school I'm applying and I'm going to town

With EA? Not sure.

The only problem that I see is that putting gear like the 10k and the ONE95 (and it goes for me as well as EA) is that you don't have guys in it when the season ends. Unless they have a crystal ball and can predict who is going to use it, it'll just be an add-on that the common gamer wouldn't use. Now, by getting all of the gear that is currently in the game as well as the playoff specials (eg. 9500) makes more of an impact, because players have signature looks (eg. Kariya with the Ultra Lite or Naslund with an ONE60)

I see what you mean with that and maybe you can answer this question that has been bugging me ever since games started creating downloadable levels/maps/rosters/etc.. Has 2K or [not sure if you'll know] EA ever thrown around the idea of making downloadable equipment packages? Like come all star break they put the out the 10K and other stuff that has debuted? If that makes sense.

I guess EA's list insn't bad if they built upon last years equipment. Still 2K trumps the competition in equipment and the demo for 2K is really great also. We're going to have to excellent games this year.

Is 2k9's demo out already? I haven't touched my 360. I know I'm getting my copy in a couple of weeks.

I don't think there's enough of a following. I mean, 2k goes for having every player looking like what they do in real life. You don't see many guys stick with gear after the ASG.

Gotta say, I was a 2K guy until NHL07 and after playing the 2K demo this week on PS3...it sucks big time! It's actually really pathetic IMO. The game play is horrible. Looks like it's NHL09 for me this year too! (as long as they fix the online play on the PS3).
