mrusse01 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3450453Don't want to flare up that old thread, but seeing what he did at the US Open (one of the most entertaining pieces of sports I've ever watched), I have to admit I was getting a little pissed off with his constant wincing after every shot. But now it comes out he was playing with a torn ACL and microfractures in his knee? Wow. Just wow. The guy is nails.
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 I'm still thinking of sending him a bill for the jeans he made me soil on Sunday. $170 isn't too much to ask given his financial situation.I made sure my bowels were empty during the playoff on Monday. Good thing.

gxc999 7 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 While I'm not personally a fan of him off the course, I gained a measure of respect for him after seeing the guy grit it out on a torn up leg. Anyway, I think it's worth mentioning that he's been bulking up his upper body the past year or two and now he's having knee problems. This isn't uncommon, as many people forget how important the knee and the extremely large leg muscles are to the overall body. Only playing hockey for an extended period of time has made me fully appreciate this fact!

Only playing hockey for an extended period of time has made me fully appreciate this fact!Tiger has been "bulking up" for more than a year or two; Men's Fitness mentioned since his "mid 20s" and he's now 31 or 32 I think. He his an overall fitness routine which includes lower body as well. He is meticulous in everything he does so to think he and his trainer(s) neglected his lower body is quiet hard to believe. A couple quotes from Men's Fitness magazine which featured an article about Tiger a few months back: "The gains are evenly distributed. His upper body is clearly larger. 'And my legs,' he say. 'Definitely not my calves, though. They have never grown - at all. It's just funny.'" "Woods lifts to enhance his entire body, with a specific emphasis on the back and shoulders ('Because we're always hunched over and we need our back muscles to support our posture and our swing,' he says); legs ('That's the platform for everything')..."He's had a history (dating back to college I believe) of knee issues, in particular the left one, so I would really doubt the issues now have anything to do with neglecting his lower body... jrhky36 1 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 i'm tired of hearing how tiger gutted out his win, and how insperational it was. so lets rewind to the 2002 playoffs and steve yzerman. talk about guts the guy could hardly walk and he's out leadind the wings to the cup. and then he has surgery to realine his leg and still comes back and plays. the national media needs to get off of tigers jock and relize that other alatheletes have done amazing things while suffering from a major injury. So while Yzerman could inspire his teammates while he was hobbling out there, Woods had to do it all by himself.Trust me, not belittling Yzerman at all, it's just a different situation. jay 1 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 It was probably one of the greatest wins in individual sport IMO. And I've got a shit-ton of respect for Rocco now... that guy friggen' battled and battled hard. I never liked him much before since he always used the long (cheater) putter but didn't realize it was essentially out of necessity. I'd love to see him get a win on tour this year... who knows, maybe his lowish draw could work in the British if he can keep his shit together.
Race4LastPlace 31 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Living in Louisville i was excited about having him here for the ryder cup. Everyone was talking ryder cup about 2 weeks ago (and thru the open) but havent heard a word since tiger's out. Im a little disappointed but i'll get over it. Would've like to see him play, but i'll settle on watching him on tv next year. Besides, the US probably wouldnt win it...

How (many) times did you leave off the word "many?" You're from Detroit so you're obviously biased, and that is ok. However, as its been pointed out you're comparing a team sport vs an individual one. Tiger has no one to bail him out if he made a mistake except himself - a mental lapse almost cost him the US Open. He can't miss a shift or two because his leg hurts, he can't take a shorter shift, he can't win by being a vocal leader, in the end, he has no help, aside from his caddy who can only carry his bag, give yardages and help read putts - but Tiger still has to hit them. If you want to compare Tiger's accomplishment the only thing close I can think of at the moment is Curt Shilling with that busted ankle (the "bloody sock") pitching in the playoffs. Also, if you think walking a golf course 5 days in a row on only one good leg then Im guessing you've never done it, and especially not in what is recognized as the hardest tournament to win.As for the Ryder Cup, hopefully the US team will become more cohesive and play better together without Tiger. I sometimes get the impression that they sit around and expect him to produce and forget that they need to produce as well. So, yeah, this may be a good thing for the US team in general since they won't have their workhorse out there.
