Being in New York City, I hope MSG will carry that game, I'm pretty sure they would, but for fans not living in the greater New York Area, they better show it on the NHL network or I'd be pretty disapointed with the NHL.

i wish they sent over a team like detroit instead of new york.

if the rangers loose i think the world will look even more down on the nhl and even more nhl players may move to play overseas. but im just a kid. what do i know

If the Rangers lose, it's nothing special. The Rangers are sort of the epitome of an American team though, the only other team that might be more patriotic would be the Caps, but they're using a lot of Ruskies on their top lines.

If Detroit were to play and lose... the best NHL team defeated by the Russian league would have the players losing interest and moving to what would then look like a more competitive league.

my bad in the Super League which will be renamed KHL in 08/09 season, and in 07/08 season Metallurg finished 2nd in standing in regular season, and lost in playoff ending up in the 3rd bronze place.

either way Rangers are not getting the bottom of the barrel.

Maybe if it ends 2-3 or something like that, but it would also be a PR nightmare for attracting new fans. What if Detroit falls on their faces and loose 7-1, completely outplayed the whole time? I'm not saying it would happen, but lordy it would look like shit for the NHL.

IMO it should be Detroit vs. the Russian champs, any other game doens't make sense.

I think the Russian champs are that team that Radulov signed with, Salavat Yulaev Ufa.

Mettalurg won the Champions Hockey League, which is run in a similar fashion to the Champions League in soccer. The top couple teams from each of the top European leagues play off to crown a champ. So the Champions Hockey League winner is definitely more appropriate to play than just the winner of the KHL.

The Rangers were chosen because

(a) at the time they had big names that were known all over Europe (Jagr and Straka to go along with Lundqvist and Shanahan to name a few),

( b ) I've been told that the Rangers are one of the hottest teams in terms of merchandise sales in Europe,

and

( c ) the Rangers will be in Europe anyway for the games in Prague.

hehehe, sorry guys cant resist... got my tickets for the games today! im watching Metallurg vs NYR and Bern Vs NYR. the word excited doesnt quite justify the way i feel. sometimes, my parents can come in handy ;)
