Nice Pants

Recommended Posts

Thinking it's time to replace my pants. The Vic pants I own have served me well, but are heavy and seem to be retaining some moisture (felt damp even after sitting out for a few months). I haven't shopped or even looked at pants in years. I want something that lightweight and mobile, but I don't want to sacrifice protection. I also want something that won't absorb water and sweat. Pants are the one area I don't know much about...they all look the same to me. Any suggestions?

i have the Bauer 8000 pants which look almost exactly like the current Supreme One90 pants. I think there great! Comfortable, protective and they seem to dry pretty quickly. I only with they had a lace-up front along with the belt (One90 has the laces) and a little more butt padding. I have only played a couple of years and still fall on my ass quite a bit.

Tackla 5000's. You cant go wrong. But try all of the above mentioned on before making a final decision. They are all good pants.

not to side track this thread, but what's the lightest pants out there - the least bulky ones?

One90 isn't light - it's OK, but even lower models (One70 & One50) are lighter since they're less bulky & have less layers

since everything is pretty much non contact my XXX-lite seem to be a bit overkill - nice pants, like the fit, but a bit bulky

Probably a cheese pair from whatever manufacturer you like. NBH supreme 10, easton stealth s1, something along those lines.

Look into a girdle. Nbh One90 will do you well.

from what I inderstand girdles aren't much lighter - especially by the time you add shelf to it etc - it's just different fit? Would One90 girdle be any lighter then One90 pants?

sounds like the obvious is true here - less weight means less protection, so possibly NBH Supreme 10 would work - just need to find them as most shopts don't care lower models (nothing lower then One50)...

One90 are not light? And they're bulky?

I'm just baffled by that statement.

Easily the lightest and least bulky pants I've ever had.

Have you tried them on?

How much would you recommend the one90s over lesser one70s and such? I'm in the market for upgrading all around...pants, elbows, shoulders, shins. Been thinking going all one90 stuff after I try it on, heard good things but never comments on comparisons and price.

Thanks. Budgets suck :P.

I would go with the 9000 over the 5000 as long as you're not looking for super-protective pants. They seem to be a little lighter and still have more than enough protection for just about any use.

yes I have - a year ago, and chose XXX-lite over these

One90 IS bulky & heavier comparing to One50 for instance

when I was trying them on I even had to go one size up for One90 (large) instead of medium in One50 & One70

One90 isn't any lighter then XXX-Lite - that's for sure.

don't get me wrong - One90 is great pants (other then the fact that many reported them ripping in the crouch area where the stretchable material is) so as XXX-lite, but the pro level protection isn't something I need, so I was hoping to get something lighter by possibly sacrificing some protection.

I'm just shocked, i never heard anyone say they felt that way about them.

Everybody is different with different feelings.

For me, and I'm only 5'10 145, the One90 pants are the lightest and most mobile I've ever had.

I got out of a pair of CCM that were too heavy and restrictive for me.

Thanks. Budgets suck :P.

I have One90 shoulders, elbows, shins, and pants.

They're all great for my body type. I'm thin and light. So i need the contour fit, mobility, and the light weight.

But oddly enough, i use Vapor XXV skates, as the One90 were too wide, and the 95 are too costly for an out of box skate (not custom).

But for me, the One90 line in protective equipment, is the best thing to happen as far as equipment. They are all mobile and don't sacrifice protection.

I'll have to try them on. I'm a thin light player also, so I'm not a fan of sacrificing much protection :P. I'm not afraid, I've just noticed it's a hell of a lot easier to get up from a hit with some equipment haha..

One90 stuff isn't cheap by nature, I'll feel bad if I try it on in the LHS and don't buy it....but I just have this feeling that monkey will give me a better price than they will, shipping included. I've never been one to waste someones time without buying anything though =\

I know how you feel, but you'll never know unless you try them on. They have to understand that.

It is just being a responsible shopper.

But i agree, monkey, warehouse, epuck...they all have good prices that beat local shops. That is why i get everything i can from them rather then shops. Except for skates, and helmets. That i need to try on. But monkey, warehouse, epuck all have great return policies, so if you don't like them after you try them on, you can send them back.

But, if you are like me, then i don't think you would be disappointed.

I never tried on the the One70 but i have seen them in person, they seem very similar to the One90.

The thing about the On90 though, is that on top of the contour fit, they have memory foam, too. I don't believe the One70 do.

Don't try on and not buy from your LHS. The shop is there to make money. YOU have to understand that. If the shop doesn't generate sales, it won't be open for you to try on (and buy) your equipment... or get your skates sharpened... or buy tape and laces... or get your blade put in your stick... or fix your broken/torn equipment that you bought online.

Support your local hockey shop. THAT is being a responsible shopper.

there's nothing to be shocked about - just compare One50 & One90 - one90 has more protection (3 layers vs 2) & so is heavier - pure physics

I have One90 shoulders, elbows, shins, and pants.

I also have One90 shoulders & shins (my forearms didn't fit into elbow pads) & I have to say they're nice & protective, but most likely an overkill for any no contact league

that's why I haven't been hearing shoulders lately at all (will probably reconsider, but will need lighter shoulders) & looking for lighter pants - just personal experience - that's all.

there's nothing wrong with One50 - depending on the level of play of course, but for no contact I'd take them over one90 any day - and spend the extra money on things that matter such as skates, stick & gloves [bTW I'm saying this now, but a year ago that wasn't how I was thinking - oh well :) ]

Actually it really isn't.

One must either be rich or not be responsible with their money if they spend money every time they go into a shop just to look around or research.

If they do maintenance on my equipment, even on that equipment i may have gotten online, that is still money in the shop's pockets when they do the maintenance work. So either way they get my money.

I have spent tons of money over the years at my local shops. So if i want to go in and try something on without instantaneously spending money, then that is my right as a consumer.

And if i can get something cheaper elsewhere, that is called being responsible with my money.

Also, keep in mind most local shops don't carry everything you may want.

If they dont have what you want it's one thing but another if you go and try something on then buy it online. I have found that if you simply talk to the store mngr or owner in a kind manner they will work with you. As you buy more things they will be more willing to do so in the future as well. If you run or own any sort of retail business you know what I'm talking about. The internet is great to research things just like this site but trying to save a couple of bucks to buy online because you dont have the social ability to simply talk to your LHS mngr is just sad.

I also think there are differing degrees in how one "uses" the LHS. I bought my gloves online. Neither were offered at my LHS, but I did try on a few pairs. My point is that there is a difference between walking in an LHS, not asking for help, and not taking anyones time, and trying on a few gloves for 8 minutes......and taking up an hour of a salespersons time, trying on 12 different skates, asking tons of questions, knowing full well that you will be buying your skates online.

Thanks for the info guys.

I was hoping to stay away from the 100+ dollar pants, but we'll see what happens when I try them on.

Surprised no one recommended any Easton pants.

I typically never ask for help at all, i don't need it. I know what to look for and i know how things fit. Ive been playing over 20 years.

If i don't take up their time, there is nothing wrong with me going in and handling items in person.

Don't tell me what i should and should not do, who are you to tell anyone what ethics are?

Social ability? Hey, if you want to spend the extra money because you have it, go for it. Most of us in the real world work hard for our money and when we can save some, we do. Or do you buy a plasma TV everytime you go into Best Buy because you "feel bad" for taking up their time. You buy a car every time you test drive one? Remember, you are wasting their time!

Let me tell you something, local shops are not unicef. They are not cancer funds, they are not charity events. They are not charity cases either. There is NO NEED for ANYONE to spend unnecessary money just because they go into a shop and try something on. Spare me your false ethics. There is no sign on the door claiming any laws that you HAVE TO buy something when you step foot in their shop.

I'm not about to walk into a store and ask for discounts either.

I got news for you, that is their JOB. If i go into a store and they help me try something on that is on their PAID TIME at their JOB. I should feel bad because they waste their time doing their job? Welcome to the real world where people waste their time doing their jobs.

I've also gone into shops many times over the years where NO ONE does their job and act as if you did them an injustice by asking questions.

Yea, i have worked retail, and i could have cared less if i helped someone out and they still didn't buy, why? Because that is what i was paid for, to help a customer out regardless.

Also, stores online, are stores, I'm giving someone business. Most of them are physical shops too with a web page.

No one should ever buy skates online.

I paid close to $100 more on my skates at a local shop.

Some things you need to overpay for to get the proper item.

Buying skates online is OK if it is a replacement pair for the same pair you bought in an LHS. I bought my s15's at my LHS, but got my next pair online.

They were compensated for their time and expertise with my first purchase. I dont feel an obligation to buy another of the same pair at the LHS.

Others my feel different, but it is JMHO.
