wow, that dude is getting stood up! too bad mission couldn't use that as their advertising campaign, it might have saved them from now being non-existent.

Wear Mission NME - Paste the competition!

Typical Minnesota high school hit. Hands and stick too high and leaving his feet.

His right foot is still on the ground :) The kid hitting the guy will be a 1st or 2nd round NHL draft choice

That doesn't make it any less cheap. As long as referees refuse to call penalties on blatant cheap shots, they will continue to get worse.

If you look closely, BOTH feet are off the ground. I don't know much about Minnesota HS hockey, but this once hit is cheap. I have heard that Minnesota HS is the mecca of American Youth hockey though, and a great testing ground for equipment. I wish they had systems like that here in Canada; systems that provided equipment to high level players...

I believe it was in the appropriate thread..considering it was a "game" siting..Not some pic of a skate sitting on a workbench or some guy's basement

I think his feet are off the ground because he's falling forward. I would not be surprised if his feet were on the ground at intitial contact. If you notice, his legs are fully extended, but if they were not and he was off the ground, then we'd be looking at a penalty. I always thought MN HS refs were whistle happy

I'm sure they do. The CHL

While that hit may be cheap its how all kids are hitting now: Diving forward with their hands. Its absolutely despicable to see, specially since everytime a good hard hit is thrown someone wants to fight over it. Something has to change before that (see above picture) becomes the norm.

However we can save proper hitting technique for a different group. Maybe I'll start a PHAT group on facebook (Proper Hitting and Technique)......

if he was purposely leaving his feet than this kid has the worst vertical in the world. Horrible showing at the combine for sure. :P

so, all the hype, for a picture of Richards where we cant even see the skate clearly? I'm ever so slightly disappointed.

I kept thinking last night, "don't these effing photogs know what's at stake?!?!"

It looks like he is pushing through the guy, feet haven't left the ice and his hands are in the upper chest. Unfortunately not every checking situation ends up in a picture perfect hit, it looks like he's more just slowing the guy down, not laying him out, and the comment about the stick too high, the stick is in his hands, which are below the guys shoulders... I don't know what rulebook you guys are looking at but it seems fine to me. Then again I played my minor hockey in northern BC and you'd usually be face washing the dude with the butt end of your stick, anything less and you're a pussy... not my opinion, just one expressed numerous times by the idiot coaches and players that led me to quit.

let the kids play.

That kid in the high school picture is the best d-man, maybe player, in the state. In that picture he is actually stepping up and taking a forward out on a step up standard check. He did not skate across ice and leave his feet to hit him In the photo he is transitioning form backward to forward skating.

In my opinion this picture displays the power the kid has. He is simply stepping into a forward and exploding into his chest.

Eric Stall was rocking out his new X60's tonight againt my hawks. They looked really nice IMO but others definately might not like the way they look.. Hawks win in a shootout which is the better news!!

It's Staal, you dolt.

Said lovingly as a hurricanes fan.

And of course the Getty images guy can't even get one photo of Staal in the entire set, much less his skates.

Not really a big deal, just kidding around.

And Staal is traditionally bad on breakaways. And shootouts. But he tends to do pretty well on penalty shots, go figure.

its been alittle while. apparently its because he is involved in an enviromentaly friendly organization. i saw something on nhl.com about him and david suzuki.

What is it biodegradable or has a lower "carbon footprint" (whatever that means) or something?
