U of Michigan Club Team

How hard would it be to make the University of Michigan's Club Team? It is a non-varsity Club Team on the ACHA in Division II.

I don't know about Michigan in particular, but there are some VERY good club teams around. I wouldn't be fooled by the club status. I can't remember if it was Penn State but a club team beat an NCAA D1 (RMU?) in an exhibition a few years back.

Oh God, here comes the D3 NCAA vs. D1 club debate again. It depends, do you know how competitive the team is within their league and the caliber of players currently on the team?

How about you read the website? It says that the team consists of former junior and triple A kids.

I play on a club team ACHA in Div III. It's not very hard, if you played any sort of Juniors. Even Jr. C you can make the team as maybe a second or third liner.

U of Ms club team plays in probably the top league in the nation, and is typically a national tournament contender. That being said, their roster is no slouch, what-so-ever.

Accually I checked and I play for a ACHA club team Div. II. And I just started playing 5 years ago. This is my 6th year playing ice hockey. No Jrs, no travel. And it doesn't mean it's that easy to make the team I'm just that good. Not to toot my own horn, but clearly it's not Impossible, I'm a decent thrid liner. If you started playing hockey at three like most of the guys on my team, you should be good enough to make U of M club hockey

Unfortunately I did not start playing hockey when I was three :(. But I have played for 5 years and still have another 4 to come (highschool) so I guess Ill just make it my goal to play on that team. Thanks for all of the responses.

Are you talking about the ann arbor club team or the u of m d club team?

Understand that a team in NY will have a lower skill level than a team from Michigan. There's just more of a talent base there, they can afford to be more selective.

It really depends on how good you are, and how good the team is. I know one guy on the Michigan team that was a badass in Midget AA, but isn't so hot on that team. On the other hand, another guy from the same Midget AA team made Western's DI team as the only guy who didnt play JR's or AAA and moved up to the 1st line after making the team assuming he would be a bench warmer. If theres one thing that I have learned playing "higher" level hockey, you cant judge a team by looking at their roster. Ask them near the end of the year if you can practice with them a couple times and get a feeling as to whether you think you can make the team or not.

There are some legit teams in the ACHA, dont fool yourself...that being said, if you have 4 years of highschool, youve got a ways to go, keep that goal in the back of your mind, youve got bigger fish to fry for now.

Agreed. You also shouldn't have it for a fact that you're going to UofM. I was for sure going to State up until junior year when I actually started visiting and applying to colleges. Mich.Tech all the way, pretty decent club team, IM, free drop in, township ponds, and local ice rentals too.

Take a look at www.achahockey.org that is the overall website for the entire program. UofM wasn't very strong when i played D1 ACHA, but that was 8 years ago. It looks as if they have gotten better, and finished just over .500 last season. You'll find some DII teams that are very competitive, and some that aren't very organized. DIII was added after i finished, but from what i understand most of the lower DII programs moved down to DIII. DI will be a good mixture of AAA, top High School, Top AA, some JR A players. It's good hockey and a full college schedule. great opportunity to play some strong hockey, while not getting a scholarship.

go watch the team play, talk to the coach, and see if you might fit in for next season.

UofM club is a very good team and they play a very tough schedule. Go see them play. When you are a Jr. or Sr. contact the coach. They will probably let you come practice and you can see then where you are.

Probably about right.

I have a friend who played for Davenport in the ACHA. He was a bit of a late bloomer, probably a strong AA, fringe AAA player in Ontario, ended up playing for Ryerson (University in Toronto) for a season after Davenport. Then again, Ryerson is terrible, but it's still CIS.
