If the D isn't great, I find looking him right in the eye is usually tthe best start. I guess they get semi-distracted by that and then whatever you do becomes that much easier. Or maybe its because I'm just that ugly that I sort of scare them.

(im a lefty)if im at their blue line or behind i use my speed and blow by them but if im inside their zone ill try to go around them down the boards and when they start angling i turn towards the boards but turn until im facing the other side of the ice then i skate towards the middle cut in and deke or shoot ,its really hard to explain

I like the Paul Coffe cross-over where you cross going one way, but plant your feet to explode the other and take off. It adds a little jazz to driving wide (also good) throws the D off a little and it fairly quick and easy. I find one on one moves won't work on a good D. The kind've D that will be beat by stickhandling will be completely loss with the simple moves as well.

A couple of things come to mind.

I try to get the D to commit then cut against the grain left. The D is usually with me and as they catch up I try to shoot a low wrister against the far post while I am in stride. It usually suprises the goalie.

If I want to try something a little different a quick spin-o-rama usually works.

I prefer high short side, it works better against butterflyers.

i like going wide on the D then when there cutting me off and pretty close i do a complete 180 and skate in with no hassle cause 9/10 he goes into the boards and is lost. or i know i pulled this one on some guy who plays in europe i was going in on him i put the puck between his stick and went around and kicked the puck up to my stick and walked in for a shot

When do these guys cut you off? If they have a good gap and close it right your left skating backwards from the blueline/top of the circle in.

If I have time/space, I try to vary my speed a little bit. Every defenceman has a distance that he likes to keep between himself and the puck carrier. If you change your speed, even just a little bit, this will keep him from being able to find the amount of space he wants and will make him uncomfortable. This will force him to make the first move, thus opening options for you. Depending on the skill level of the league you are playing in, you might not get the opportunity to use this a whole lot. In more select leagues (AAA and even AA) it's rare that you will be able find yourself with enough time to slow down/accelerate very much before a back-checker has caught up with you. Personally, I don't get a whole lot of chances to try it, but, when I do have the time, (usually when I get a quick break while killing a penalty) it works pretty well. At the very least you will earn yourself enough space to get a shot off and hope the defenceman is screening the goalie. Give it a whirl in practice.

favourite thing to do 1v1 against the D? if I'm on the right side (i shoot right) I drive the net, and if he's still in front of me, I drag it to my skates and snap a quick shot. If I'm on the left side, I just cut into the slot and fire away

since im big ,if it was legal id just skate through the guy and score  but for now i seem to like deke-ing the d man and having a foot race to the net pushing him away with one arm and dragging the puck with the other and hopefully ill get ahead of the d man by the time im a foot away from the crease then ill deke and put the puck in or pass and take the d man out.

If you're off wing the Richard move works pretty well. Use your inner arm to shield against the D and cut in on net. If you're big or fast it works almost everytime. But if the goalie follows you have to get it up high in a hurry when you get to the middle of the ice.

What I like to do is try and look straight on...make em lose their concentration...move the puck under the stick...bring teh stick over...and then flip it through their legs...works almost every time, when its a better team...skate outside and cut in

Anyone see Afinogenov's 1 on 1 attempt tonight? The one where he was barely stopped when he tried to go between the legs. Now thats dangling.
