Gaborik being shopped?

Recommended Posts

If they wait too long he could get hurt. If you're going to move him, they should do it as early as they can.

tru but they either let him go and get nothing for him or they can trade him and at least get something out of the trade instead of jus letting him go.

They just said on TSN that the two teams that are interested are LA and Montreal. I am sure there are more takers around, but depending on how bad Montreal want him they could put a great package together.

Before signing Lang and Tanguay I would have been all over Montreal making a move for Gabby. But, after how the team has started out...and with both Tangs and Lang contributing...I don't know that Gaborik is a necessary move to make right now.

Montreal only has around 250k left under the cap. They will have to move some serious salary to bring Gaborik in at this time.

Supposedly Gaborik himself has said he wants to play in LA alongside a guy like Kopitar. Just dont see Lombardi weaking the system to bring in a guy like Gaborik who wants a pile full fo money and has health issues.

Kings aren't going anywhere this season, better for them to wait and make an offer in the off-season if they want him. If the guy wants to come to your team, why trade away some of the talent that he sees as an asset and then give him a big contract. Better to just give him the big contract later.

Exactly. As a Kings fans I just dont want to see them sign him for anything over what he already gets. And even then I would be concerned. I dont trust his groin staying healthy to warrant a huge contract.

With Demitra on the Canucks, I could see him wanting to go there for the year. As big of a deal as it was for the Wild to get Demitra to keep Gaborik happy in the first place, I would think he'd be wanting to go somewhere to play alongside another Slovak. The problem is his cap space is too high for most contending teams to take him on this early in the season. And I'm guessing the Wild want to move him before his groin makes it's annual tweak. I suppose there is always the possibility of a three team deal to free up cap space, but I have to think that most teams that have cap space aren't too willing to help those that don't this early either. Might as well let the teams squeezed against the cap stew for a little while.

Shopping Gabby this early is like the padres already shopping Peavy. Gabby isn't going anywhere till the deadline, but if he does, everyone will know the deal to the T like a week before. Any team picking up Gabby is going to make some serious room for that contract.

I've heard Ryan McDonagh's name being thrown around as part of the deal. I suppose a hometown kid would come across as lucrative.

Too late. Jacques gave him a day off and he hurt himself playing hacky sack with some teammates. Tomorrow will be his fourth game out if he doesn't play.

The Rangers waived Rissmiller (1m) so maybe my Rangers are in the hunt.

I really hope not. The team seems to be gelling together very well. No need to dump some good players or some minor league prospects for a guy seemingly made out of paper-mache.

Ugh confirmed per the Star Tribune..

Also as a Wild fan, I'm going to be bold- and say good.... I'm just getting sick of Gabby. He's in and out of the lineup constantly, and even when he IS playing, he decides when he wants to bring it. Add to that him turning down BIG offers from the club.... its time for him to go.

I am a Wild fan but he is easily one of my least favorite players on the team...

I would be THRILLED if we got a few good young players for him.

I'll third that. He can be great when he wants to be but half the time he just seems unmotivated. Then the injuries. Let him go and let Koivu and Burns become the face of the franchise.
