Celebrations?

Recommended Posts

Scored a nice wrap around this one time, so I skated behind the net, stopped, and pointed to the puck like the ref. classic.

Damn it. That was just what I was gonna say except you should put your glove up to your face like your blowing the whistle then put you arm down like the refs signaling the goal.Thats great.

I'm so glad that the influence of NFL and NBA players is eroding the respect for the game of hockey. All of you guys with these choreographed celebrations are ridiculous. Plus, they just show a complete lack of class and respect for both the game and your opponent.

I don't see the harm in celebrating during a house/summer league game, where nothing is too serious anyways. I have yet to see one of these outrageous celebrations done in one of my high school regular season games, most of the fun I get out of it is at practice. No need to get all preachy about how we're degrading hockey, its all in good fun. If an NHL player were to do it would be a different story, but until then...

That is exactly where you are missing the point. Respect for the game is respect for the game. Plus, most of these moronic celebrations that I've read here have taken place in serious games. None of these guys were talking about having a little fun with teammates in an intrasquad scrimmage. These were all ways to try to either humiliate the opponent or put a spotlight on themselves "Look at me, I scored".

I guess being one of the grizzled veterans of this board at 33 I just have more respect for the game than those who have come after me. Whenever I score its the simple bottom hand half way up the shaft stick raise as I seek out the guy or guys that made the play to set it up for a quick tap of the gloves or pat to the head and that's it. But hey, that's just me.

one time we were down 10 -0 and my teammate scored, then he went to the glass and fogged up the glass and wrote his name on it. it was hillarious because we were getting killed.

Ha, just wanted to open an almost similar thread.. but searchin helps !

Do you guys have some cool celebrating videos ? Maybe College Hockey, Minors and even NHL vids are okay, cause here they are just available for people with paytv so they arent well known around here.

Thanks

HAPPY EASTER !

I dont know if these have been talked about, havent read all 5 pages. I like the row boat (take a running start, sit down, with your feet extended, and row your boat). The other one I like is the shotgun, you need three people to play (can work with 1 though). Take your line mates, after you score, line them up, cock your gun, and shoot them. They fall after you shoot them.

I pulled the kayak once... kinda like the rowboat, but paddle with both ends of your stick, and don't forget to include a roll-over. (Hey, it was an intrasquad with my beer league team... the other team didn't show up, so we were just screwing around.)

I also did the sheath-the-sword, spun my stick around a few times and slammed it back into the hip holster.

Scored a game winner with like 3 seconds left. Then skated up to the other teams bench, put down my stick, and took a bow. :D

If you can still walk, then they had more retraint that I would have had.

To some extent I'm with Chippa on not getting too wild on the celebrations. I would also say there's a time and a place for everything.

Playing pick-up, most of us know each other, and it's a 'fun first' crowd, so once in a while we end up trying to out do each other for celebrations. It's almost like making fun of ourselves - a huge celebration for a goal in bush league pick-up play in a lacrosse box under the lights on a summer night is pretty lame, which is exactly why we do it sometimes (a lot of the above mentioned ones...)

In league play, I try not to do anything that would p*ss me off if it were done to my team after being scored on. Celebrating like crazy in a blowout? Get a life. A wise friend once told me "When you lose big, you don't say much. When you win big, you should say even less."

My favourite celebration event happened when my team was losing by 5 or so goals in a game we were being dominated in. The outcome was not in doubt, and we were just trying to play hard to the whistle to keep it respectable. Every goal, they kept whooping it up even more. Finally, one of their high scorers splits the D, and roofs a breakaway. He then proceeds to stand in our crease, hands in the air, shaking his hips and doing a little dance. He shouts "Whoo! I look like an All-Star!" The word 'star' had just left his mouth when I laid him out with the hardest hit I could. He gets the wind knocked out of him, and I skate over him while he's lying on his back gasping and I ask "See any stars now? Learn some respect, sonny," (He's 18-ish, I'm 36). The other team's screaming, and the ref just says "Hey, you had it coming!" and skates the kid back to his bench.

Actually as soon as I did that, since the game was practially over, I sprinted to the dressing room, Took about half of my gear off, ran to my car, and stayed with a friend for about a week. (alright I am kidding about staying with the friend part) but I was really scared next time we played that team. Thankfully I can still walk, and am alive for that matter.

Only just started playing Ice hockey 7 months ago. I play for the worst team in the uk at the moment Haringey U19 (Finished Bottom of the B league). Anyway to cut a long story short, i scored on my first macth and loved it!!!!! :D

Funny enough the night before my first game i couldnt get to sleep (Because i was so excited) and ended up planing what i would do if i scored. In the end i decided i would just put my stick up in the air. But did i do that....... Ooooooo no.......... i was so excited i was screaming the loudest i could "I SCORED I SCORED I SCORED" and ended up doing some type of retarded super belly floop in the middle of the ice lol! :P

I don't score much, but I don't really think about it much when I do. If the game is close, I'll pump a fist or raise my hand, but it's not really intentional it's just excitement. I get just as excited when a teammate scores as I do when it's me.

If it's a blowout I'll pretty much just skate away and maybe tap a teammates glove if he offers.

One thing I've always thought about doing.. Roof it, knock the bottle off the net and go pick it up for the goalie. Face away from the goalie as you're picking it up and loosen the lid. Place the bottle back on the top of the net with a friendly "Here's your bottle.." and skate away. Next time the goalie takes a drink, the lid will come off and the water will dump all over him..
