I loved how AGAIN, the young stars game was ruined by constant replays that cut away from the actual game going on. Thanks VS, I didn't want to see those 5 or so goals that weren't televised.

People need to get off Ovechkin's cock, he won without one single skill goal... Loved how he brought the entire event to a standstill so he could play dress up.

Yep, either that, or the camera would focus on the bench to show a player talking to the announcers. I was yelling at the TV!

Ovechkin did get credit for his lame dress-up goal. Getzlaf's or Stamkos' goals should have won it.

Kovalev's act was much better, IMHO. Getzlaf and Stamkos close behind.

I agree, i guess Ovechkin won because he put on more of a show.

What the nhl lacks is PERSONALITY. Every other league has it but hockey. Sorry, but Crosby is as boring as it gets... In the nba you have lebron and his baby powder thing. as stupid as it is, fans love it. Ovie brings flare and originality. He knows this is all about showing off a bit and im pretty sure he had a mirrored visor last year and his pant strings all hanging out.

Absolutely correct. No matter who you interview, you get the same tried and true, well rehearsed answers to questions. Reminds me of the scene in Bull Durham where Kevin Costner is teaching Tim Robbins all of the old cliches.

I don't know how kovy or getzlaf didn't win. Shooting left handed and wearing a hat wasn't as impressive as the flip to the neck/stand on puck or the hackey sack thing getzlaf tried (it worked in the practice vid I posted earlier in the thread)

But, ovey has the personality, and in a popularity contest, personality wins

I liked St. Louis doing the behind the back kick too. I knew Kovy would do something stepping on the puck...he's got a ton of stuff on his DVD about that.

As you say personality and props won it. Who did the Superman dunk with the cape a few years ago at the NBA ASG? It may not have been the best dunk...but it made an impression.

I thought it should have been Getzlaf/Kovalev, Stamkos, St Louis then Ovechkin, Kane.

Getzlaf's move was just soo smooth.

I agree that based on move, Ovie wouldn't have won. However, it was pretty funny when he put on the hat, sunglasses and got some gatorade. It was just different.

What the nhl should do is give the winning side of the allstar game home advantage in the cup finals. It would make the game worth something and worth watching.

Why? I know the regular season is somewhat irrelevant when it comes to the playoffs as any team can get hot....but I think the team that earns it during the regular season should at least get the slight home barn advantage

Each top team from each conference would still have home advantage up until the finals. The west and east hardly play each other so it not exactly fair to have one team have home ice when they hardly play the same teams the other finalist has. It would give the all star game some meaning. Lets be honest, the only part of the game worth watching was from the last few minutes of the 3rd to the shootout.

that game seemed pretty interesting to me I dont know why so many people complain about it, might have something to do with it being played where people care about hockey too.

Someone in the CBC pregame said that if they want to see a good game...they should have the roster of the winning team not have to pay into Escrow for that year. *L* THEN you'd see them play hard.

I've got the game on DVR...I had hockey tonight...probably watch it tomorrow. Sounds like it was a good game.

I MAY just have to get a Kovalev ASG jersey when I'm on Montreal in a couple weeks.

It was a really fun game to watch!!! and yes it looked like the players were having a blast! but that skills comp crap bothered me. I would have been dispointed if i would have payed to see the skills comp

The only thing that really bothered me in the skills comp was that stupid breakaway challenge, but besides that i thought it was pretty good.

I think we should get rid of this "showoff/slam-dunk style shootout", that was the only downside of the skills comp that i saw. If they just left it to a shootout competition, the players will still try and be creative, without having the pressure of trying to do something that you might pull off 1 out of 50 times. I did see some effort from certain players in the game however which was nice.

I thought the game itself was great.

You have to go into it expecting to see the best players in the world playing a game of shinny, because that's what it is. But what's so bad about that? Personally I love it, but I guess I'm the same guy who frantically gets to every NHL game I go to as early as possible to watch the warm-up.

The Breakaway Challenge has to go, bringing in a 'mystery' goalie just so they would have a better chance of scoring is one of those ideas that probably a bunch of people around a desk talked themselves into thinking would be really smart, but it just seemed dumb to me. I liked the 3-0 drill from the AHL game much better. And is it just me or are those accuracy targets getting bigger every year? They looked massive.

Something that would be really awesome, if they could figure out the logisitics (and I'm sure it would be tough...maybe even impossible), would be to get the CHL Top Prospect's Game into the All-Star Weekend somehow. Now THAT'S a hockey game.
