Pro Skate Laces

Recommended Posts

Any particular type of skate laces preferred by pro players? Waxed or un-waxed? Just use the same as come with the retail skates? I'm just curious. Some LHS guy told me the retail vapor laces are on there for weight savings, as they're lighter than other laces, but not as good as aftermarket laces. Probably he just wanted to sell some laces. I can't imagine there's any real difference in lace weight. I go back and forth between waxed and unwaxed. By the way, I can't seem to find any white laces that are as good and waxed as the graf yellow laces.

its all a matter of grams...

having the best skates, and the best wheels, best bearings, best whatever is not going to make you the best player.

Graf makes white (and black) waxed laces, as well.

Personally, I like my skates fairly tight, and find that even with the lightly waxed laces that seem to be the ones for sale everywhere, that the laces still loosen up after tightening. The regular laces that come with vapors, for example, seem to loosen up a lot. I find myself having to re-tighten.

oh my, I am totally on the strangle-that-guy-boat. I use A&R crap "wax" laces. They hurt my fingers to pull so I went back to my stock vapor laces which actually, seem tighter. No other brand wax laces hurt my fingers though, so the fact that they hurt my fingers is probably just related to the colder weather.

A lot of people like Graf.

Try lacing your skates from the outside in. I have been doing this for years and I too like my skates ultra tight and not loose after the first 30 min. Give it go, I but you will notice a difference.

a professor at my university visited at one point a faucet factory of the biggest producer in the world. there he saw faucets made for different brands. the whole point to this is that you can't be good in everything u make. i think that the laces are made by 1 or 2 companys and branded for NBH, RBK etc. i can't say that i have tried them, or even seen them up close, but from what i've seen on diff online shops is that they all look the same, ALL, doesn't matter the brand, it's much easier to purchase laces from a company then investing in making your own. just my 2 cents

Well honestly, it's a damn lace, hard to throw a lot of variety in that. as for the weight difference, wow, why would the weight of your laces matter? That's ridiculous. Normal ass laces are just fine.

I haven't exactly been through a lot of different lace brands, but the few I've seen all vary quite a bit in weight, width, aglet style, wax, etc. I think there's either a lot of variation, or it's more than one brand.

There are dozens of manufacturers of shoe laces, why not hockey laces? Making faucets is a hell of a lot more expensive than laces, your mom could make a good lace given time and technique.

Sportstape makes Bauer laces, Elite makes CCM/Reebok laces.

there you go, that's what i was saying. it's good to know this since the RBK laces are more expensive than Elite laces, waxed or not, at least on hockeygiant

just asking, any of you heard of "tex style" laces?

25 grams? All skate companies would be all over that if they cut down that much (also, I wonder if they weigh skates with laces in...).

Zach

i use waxed dental floss and save a ton of weight. :P

I've used waxed laces for years now. Changed over after playing hockey for about two or three years. Was tired of constantly retightening my laces during games. I'd never go back to regular laces. Guess the European in me comes out playing the game at times. Like the waxed laces, European fit pants, Jofa protection underneath and Graf skates. Yea, I know Grafs and Tackla are made in Canada as well ,but they are from Euro design. A lot of personal preference issues with me I guess.

My bad, you never know with some of the posts on this board.

Honest mistake, those are it, I got me the flame ones :P . The only thing I can say now is that in the lace industry there aren't that many models/patterns to chose from, you got the single tracer, the double (two black lines are better than one, wtf?) tracer and from what I've seen on the website, btw thanks for that, the smoke model is identical with the model on the vapors.

God, what are we doing, talking about laces, someone please close this thread

edit: almost forgot, I thought that the laces are made from cotton, not 100% TEXTURED POLYESTER

Imagine how many micrograms you could save if you switched to unwaxed.
