BIG toe curve

Recommended Posts

I just ordered a Zherdev/Kovy stick from Kynetyk Hockey (my dream curve!) I just hope the left handed versions are as perfect a copy as it is on the right handed models, and not have the discrepancy like on the Gionta curves on the Warrior line.

I wonder how they even got the prototype for the left hand? As far as i know you can't send a right hand original and just flip it.

Im not sure but they had an option for left handed version. here is the link to the page to check it out if you want( http://khockey.com/equipment/sticks/kovy-curve ). they dont have any pictures of the left handed blade though. But now I'm worried haha hopefully my stick has the exact same curve as the right handed cause the Zherdev patter as I mentioned is my absolute dream curve so hopefully its the same or I will be really upset, and will have to start forcing myself to shoot right handed so I can get some good curves haha just kidding.

I don't know how they actually do it at this particular company. But I can tell you that with a 3D scanner, solid modeling software, and a rapid prototyping machine, (all things possessed by many large companies and consulting engineering firms) coming up with a mirror image prototype in plastic is not especially difficult. That prototype could then be used to make a negative mold or they could just use the scan to go straight to a CNC machining center to cut a metal negative mold directly if they didn't need to see a prototype. Straightforward stuff in today's engineering world.

Oh yeah good points, i mean we are talking about kynetyk though so who knows. Im just thinking of a straight option when getting customs from easton, with that technology ready they don't seem to want to offer it for a bit extra even. All customs had to have an original.

Well i hope it works out for you, i have several Kovy pro stocks and it is a nice curve to work with. If it doesn't turn out the way you want im sure you will find a nice lefty pro stock toe, there are tons out there. Check out http://www.mybasehockey.com/ they got Hossa in left tapereds.

Anybody that lives in or around Kelowna, BC and is in search of a nice toe curve be sure to check out Chevy's Source for Sports. They have Pro stock"Ovechkin" CCM U+ CL Grips in a LH. I have no idea how they got their hands on these since Ovi is a righty but they say "OVI-8" in the nameplate so I'm guessing they're the LH from an Ovi pro mould.

It might not be the biggest/sickest/most sexy toe curve (if a pure toe curve at all) around but I definitely like my totalone with the p14 (Toews pattern nowadays?) curve. At least all my shots don't end up over the net like with a p92 :)

Anyways, snowy greetings from Finland, this was my first post here...

I've seen the p14 was the Richards on the Total Ones but now the p14 is the Toews and the p106 is the Richards according to the new catalog.

just checked that little detail out in the catalog. How long before we start seeing changes on the namebars? a few months is my guess

But they're killer for one timers (OV and Kovy).

That doesn't make a lot of sense. If they're not good for slapshots, they wont be good for a onetimer (a slapshot with a moving puck). I have a feeling they're fine for both, just need the proper technique.

Maybe ok for slappers and one-timers in theory, but I have yet to meet anyone outside the pros who can get off a real good slapper with a toe hook. Those guys/gals may be out there, but there aren't many of them, I'm sure of that. After using the toe hook for close to six months, my wristers are still just as hard as my slap shot. And more accurate too, of course. Now let me pick up my Draper curve on the same stick and my slappers just scream. Usually right at someone's head, but at least they're good for intimidation of the opposing D :-) Fwiw, with the Gionta, I seem to have my best luck striking square on the center of the blade. But considering how weak my slappers are with that curve, makes me wonder why I'm wasting the pixels... sorry about that.

My Slapshot with my Kremlin Curve was the best it's ever been. It does take practice though, you can't just do it right away.

I'm using a BASE BC01 right now and I have no problem with hard slappers. I hit the puck in the middle of the blade. I just have to remember to follow through lower or with the open toe I'm going head hunting.

I think every non-pro toe hook user in the world must be right here on this board. I swear, in the last two years of regular play (3-4 times per week), mine is still the only toe hook I've ever seen at the rink. And yet there's a veritable parade of us here. Anyway, glad to hear the slappers can work - just means I have to keep practicing!

Shoeshine Boy can attest the fact that I'm probably the only one in our league that uses a huge toe curve. I have no problem ripping slappers or taking good shots on the one-timer.

i dont know if this is where i should ask this or not so forgive me, but im thinking of trying a gionta to dip into the toe curves, but im wondering were is the sweet spot for snap shots? is it just the mid toe area? and im guessing the heel is were you would take slap shots from?

Right in the pocket created by the curve.

Yep, you want to cup the puck in that little pocket, lean in, and fire.
