zingbergeur 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 For the last several years I have been using motocross elbow pads. They are light and flexible, but don't offer nearly as much protection. I just play in beer leagues, and I have never had an issue with being too little protected. They stay on using spandex, and they allow great movement. These are mine:These look like a newer version of mine:LINK to purchase
spy178 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 The only piece of equipment more important to me than my elbow pads is my cup!! Can't believe anyone would play a game (pickup or not) without them. What about your helmet. You take a whole lot more whacks to the elbow and shin then you do to the head. Sure, the consequences of a hit to the head are greater, but for day to day health, cup, elbows and shins are the most important. And I always wear elbows. My Easton S5s fit me well, they're comfortable, secure and protective, not to mention not too long. What he said ^.

starsfan71 9 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 Depends on the league rules. I think all payers under 18 in the USA hav to wear elbow pads, but I know their are lots of adult leauges don't require them.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 I for one can't stand elbow pads with the bicep protector. I'm on old school Jofa's which were a hand-me-down gift from a buddy. I can't imagine being able to use anything else.I love my Jofa 8025s, no bicep protector at all. I also have some newer DR elbows that used to have a bicep protector. A couple quick snips of the elastic straps and the bicep protectors were gone and I have better protection without all the bulk.
nickyb13 9 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 I wear lacrosse elbow pads and they are perfect just enough protection for my level of play and you forget they are there.
Powerfibers 8 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 Next to my helmet, I always want the elbow pads on. Even if we are only playing the kids, it's either full equipment less shoulders or it's helmet, elbows, and gloves. Those little guys will slew foot you accidentally, and elbows hurt when they hit the ice!

RecLeagueHero 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Isn't it against the rules not to wear elbow pads in league play?If you're using USA Hockey rules then technically the answer is yes. Shoulder pads are also required per USAH rules for that matter. Of course, not all adult leagues are affliated with USAH and enforcement is another issue itself. I catch enough crap reffing adult league games, I'm not going to create more of it by enforcing a rule that no one else does, like wear shoulder/elbow pads. Also, with all of the very thin pads like the Sher-Woods out there, who can really tell if you're wearing them or not? I'm not going pat down every player to check for pads. For some reason it makes me think of sides lined up on their knees before rugby matches while the ref inspects celts to make sure no one has illegal spikes. Of course that actually serves to protect other players, the only person hurt by not wearing elbow pads is you. I don't like elbow pads, but I also hate huge bruises that run from my elbow all the way up to my wrist and pain coming from simple movements of my elbow. So I wear them, but if adults choose other wise I see that as being their affair.
iamcanadian 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 I hate the huge new elbow pads, I really miss my old coopers. Anyone with me?I just got a new pair of missions, I wish i still had my retro cmm's but they were way too small
dahonam 3 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 When i was younger, my coaches always emphasized wearing of all equipment, whether its for games, practice or pickups. Always wore it, 15 years later i'm still wearing full gear when i play (games only now, no more practice or pickups). Even the kids i coach now, they either wear full gear on the rink or they don't go on the rink at all...

Jarick 5 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Not at all. If you get the elbows without the huge bicep or wrist guards, they are great. I have some S9's that hold together pretty well, and I'd like to get some Vapor XXV's as they look like they hold on even better.
-venom- 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Multiple bone chips in each elbow = wear elbow pads all the time now. Generally I hate wearing them, but picked up a pair of Mission Fuel 110s recently for cheap, removed the wrist guard, and I've gotten used to them now. minwookie 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 I forgot to put my elbow pads on before a game and played the first period without them, until I went I could go to the locker room to get them. Not sure if it was because I wasn't wearing protection there, or I just happened to get knicked a few times, but my elbows/forearms were bruised as hell. Coulda just been coincidence. Also I hate the way they are always slipping, so I always wear a long sleeve compression shirt to help keep them up. I've seen some shirts with some rubber grip like material.. anyway to do this to your existing shirts?
al36 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2009 Answer is simple for me: No, I don´t. I always wear full gear even elbows might be a little bit bulky. I still remember when I fell down with slippery elbow pads many years ago... the right elbow is not OK. Now I wear CCM V10 and they work well for me IMO. mxihockey 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2009 I have jofa 5044's, and wear them always, even when I'm playing shinny with no shoulder pads I still wear my elbows. For some reason I don't feel rite if I'm not wearing my elbows.
