Why so many Warrior sticks

Recommended Posts

Warrior is based in Michigan, so that would explain the growing popularity in Detroit. Also younger players are more apt to accept the extremely trendy marketing and graphics. So with each surge of young players that enters the NHL each year, the overall acceptance of the sticks will be greater. This will also affect the older players' opinions of the product. My 2 cents.

Warrior has the deep pockets of New Balance behind them and they are in growth mode. More than Michigan based, they are Metro Detroit based so you know they are hanging around the Wings as much as possible and they probably have Wings stopping by for input on equipment.

Those relationships with the Wings were developed long before Warrior came about.

How do they do it?

They use a computer program to provide video analysis of a player's shot and find areas where improvement can be made.

Actually it's motion-capture.

A bit more complex than just video, the stick has all of the sensors and they're able to get a ton of info from it.

They have a trailer which goes to NHL teams' practice facilities and they are able to fine-tune the sticks for the players.

The mo-cap is just how they get the data in the system, the real beauty is in the analysis software. Not surprisingly a number of players don't use the combination that the software determines to be optimal.

yep. i had some custom irons made for me at the regional titleist center, and they performed a video swing analysis with each individual iron, (taking lots of data into account which i couldnt really interpret), and tweaked the lie, loft, shaft length, flex, grip etc. as well as shaft type for each club. awesome custom attention, and the results were outstanding, but i dont think i'd be willing to pay for that level of attention to my hockey stick (since the irons will last years, but sticks break constantly)... i guess it really only makes sense for the pros.

Specifically, as mentioned, New Jersey with Warrior, and the Flyers are heavily dominated by Nike Bauer. I mean Hell, they even got Briere to jump ship from Easton at the beginning of the season.

I noticed that too, a lot of Easton on the red wings last year, and now it seems like several guys made the switch to Warrior Franchise gloves all of a sudden. Wonder if Hossa has anything to do with that.

Guys on the team were wearing Warrior before Hossa showed up.

only McCarty. Lidstrom, Draper switched this season.

I was JUST talking with someone about this and how much RBK/CCM gear was being used for the 03/04 Lightning. :)

Same goes for the Flyers. Just about everyone is using Bauer. There are a couple that aren't, but 95% of the team does.

The Coyotes are 98% Warrior sticks and gloves. (Rhino/Mo/Jovo still repping Eagle gloves)

I am still floored Doaner made the switch to Warrior from CCM.

I've seen a few pairs of Jovanoski warriors on ebay.

draper has been using warrior sticks for a while. kopecky was using also last year and homer has been using a warrior twig since i could remember well inno/warrior. i noticed chelly has been using warrior lately and kopecky went to using pretty much all easton. it seems the wings are divided with a few guys using easton, majority using nike bauer and the rest kind of a mix of stuff.

I'm not sure I get your point. You do understand that lots of companies make stuff for pros that they never wear in games. Jovo has never worn Warrior gloves in an NHL game.

Quite possibly the dumbest reason to buy anything.

And that's exactly when you know marketing has done it's trick

Marketing has been the most important thing since the Vapor XX hit the market.

Marketing aside, people have raved about the Inno sticks for a long time on this board. Apparently they perform well- Warrior has been able to utilize good marketing to get the product out there better than Inno could. If the sticks were shit a 10 year old design wouldn't still be successful.

Got my first Warrior (Dolo) today, looking forward to trying it out.

A large part of the Inno allure was the rarity.

well i think its unfair to accuse someone of being brainwashed by marketing when I think it is legitimate to want to try a product that is heavily supported by players who know there stuff. we arent talking about silly commercials but actual product endorsment by players who are not involved with warrior in any other way. i have to say that although i am not enamored with warriors flashy image i am interested in their product solely because of the fact that it is used by the guys who know best.

although yes I do think warrior has the most obnoxious marketing campaign I do not think its fair to accuse this poster of falling victim to it.

You're assuming the players know their stuff. It has been my experience that more often than not, they are not. I'll never forget the completely blank stare I got when I asked a former NHL player what lie his blade was. I was half expecting him to tell me that it went to eleven. I have nothing against warrior sticks, I hope to try one at some point. My experience with Inno was largely a disappointment but that doesn't mean the product couldn't have improved. As for the marketing thing, I'm anti-lemming for the most part. If you want to try it, try it. Just don't do it because an NHL player is using it.

Welcome to MSH! Use whatever you want whenever you want and especially if an NHL player is using it. 4 out of 5 MSHers get a chubby over Marc Savard's latest daily gear switch(there is an entire thread devoted to this very topic) and want to use what Savard has because Savard has it. Why shouldn't you? Go for it!!!!!!!!

Haha. Well said. For pros it is probably the quick turn-around or money, but for us MSHers its all personal preference. Find something you like, not something someone in the NHL likes.

Yeah good point, I know players may not know their stuff but even if someone doesnt know their stuff they still know that they like whatever it is they are using. It can't be that bad of a product if it has the support that warrior has. All that support has to stand for something.

Funny you should put it that way, after growing up being 'used to' the big names, CCM, Bauer, Jofa, and countless others; I met Easton, Mission and others with more than a little skepticism, hell even now I've still barely been able to push myself out of the mind set that Missions was something just roller hockey players used.
