lampliter87 8 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Tied 2-2 in the second OT, Vermont takes a shot that appears to go in but nobody notices and is not ruled a goal with about 10 min. left. Play continues. At the next stoppage of play, around the 4:30 mark in the same overtime, the officials go into review and rule the shot a goal after almost 6 more minutes of play.I feel bad for the Air Force boys, that's a terrible way to lose.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=4024800

Hockeyman11385 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 That was a very interesting way to end a game. Being a UVM fan I was very excited but it still a terrible way to lose. On the other hand the puck clearly went in (and through) the net. At least it wasn't one of those point shots that hit 5 people and trickle over the goal line. Lawson has an absolute canon of a shot. He's a really big guy (6'3", 240 lbs) and can skate. I would think a pro team would take a shot on him. Either way, GO UVM and can't wait for the Frozen Four. Warriorsdman 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 I have done a showcase with Serratore and from what I have seen of him, he is an incredible coach. The way he motivates those guys is incredible, and the one time I talked to him, he made a great impression. Truly a class act.

Warriorsdman 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 ^^^ Not sure if that was a message for future seasons, but AF lost in double-OT to Vermont last night. Check out the link above.
epstud74 24 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Ahh the wonders of a single elimination tournament. This year's field doesnt consist of strong teams like in previous years, but makes for some very interesting hockey. I wasnt expecting to see UMD/Air Force and Bemidji State advance past their 1st games. Granted, Air Force is a tough team and their recruiting is getting better and better each year. North Dakota..haha how do you lose to UNH? Seriously..they skated circles around UNH for the better part of 3 periods. I guess having a weak goalie does have its drawbacks. Congrats to UNH for not giving up. Anyone think Miami of Ohio looks good? They're not terribly exciting offensively, but they really lock down defensively and make it very difficult to get quality scoring chances. If Miami sticks with their defensive mode of play, I think they could win it all. I think Bemidji State could knock off Cornell. Cornell really isnt as talented as ND and BSU has a few 22 yr old Freshmen lol They have one guy born in 1983
interpathway 9 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 I was at Cornerstone (local college bar) and was watching all the FF action. No audio, no high definition, and I had to sit there for a good 10? minutes trying to figure out if this was a goal or not. ESPNU was reviewing another shot for the first 5 minutes or so which definitely did not go in. Quite the review, but when ESPNU finally showed the previous show going through the net, no doubt. What a finish. Anyone else notice that the net did not have a hole in it? I assume the puck went straight through the net without breaking it....quite weird... lampliter87 8 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Yeah they first did the replay after a pretty wild crash-the-net play but the puck obviously did not go in. The review took approximately forever, I maintain it was at least 15 minutes.
epstud74 24 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 I've yet to see the replay. I saw snippets of the game, but had a game of my own to play. So you think it never went in? ouch
Hockeyman11385 1 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 I think what he was saying is that ESPNU was looking at the wrong play for the most of the time where the puck clearly never went in. If you look at the play that was actually reviewed there was no doubt that the puck went in.

That was the type of loss that stays with you though.... 0.1 on the clock, and UNH scores, then to drop it in overtime...wow

It was dead obvious that the puck did not enter the net on that play.

I'm surpirsed yale got knocked out. I got to see them play this year and they were a very good team. That UNH game was sick, when the faceoff was in the zone I knew that they were gonna score I just had that feeling, what a finish.
BK 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 This tourney was nuts. 2 buzzer beaters in one day and then the AF game. Too bad the Ohio game wasn't a little closer.
epstud74 24 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 OSU really had no business being in that tournament. They're a middle of the road CCHA team, not a top tier team like Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame or MSU. Air Force is a legit team, too bad they lost to Vermont, but thats how it goes. They'll be good next year as wellI've got mixed feelings on UNH, I wasnt too impressed with them this year, but their record speaks for itself I suppose. They didnt look very impressive in Minneapolis earlier this year against a mediocre Gophers team. Miami-Play good defense & have a darned good coachBoston University-Okay, could win it all, but not exactly a typical #1 seed-clearly has performed well thoughBemidji State-Tough, veteran team. Will win with smart hockey, probably not as talented as other western teams, but seem to play better than them. Michigan/UND-WTF?Cornell-Another team who really got into tourney on basis of their record, but they really havent played anyone. I guess the Ivy League is decent, but do they warrant 2 teams in the tournament? (Princeton) The NCAA hockey landscape has changed in the last 10-15 years and the best players really are not gravitating towards the Ivy League schools as they did in the past. Its pretty crazy to see a guy of his size doing what he can with the puck. He is also a really nice guy and I always enjoy skating with him.
dontdumpdangle 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 Boston University-Okay, could win it all, but not exactly a typical #1 seed-clearly has performed well thoughHaha what more does BU have to do to be a typical #1 seed?
epstud74 24 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 They dont have to do anything more...I'm just saying, it is a down year in college hockey with all the defections and graduations. BU does have a national title caliber team though, they just do not seem as deep as Boston College or other great BU teams of the past. They are better than BU's team with John Curry though...They just do not seem to be the juggernaut teams like North Dakota or Boston College have been. Just a personal observation. Another team that I think can win it all is Miami of Ohio...They look tough and can shut down high flying teams.
dontdumpdangle 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 BU has a better record than BC did last season. Also it might seem like they are not as good because they dont really have any star players like your gerbes boyles and ferrios but they have 4 solid lines. ndlancer95 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2009 I was @that game. in arena, they were replaying the stoppage in play before, not the goal. It was a rediculous wayto end the game, a 20 minute replay, but props to Lawson nd UVM. Good luck at the ncaas
