So, I ordered some practice jerseys off HockeyGiant today using their code for 70% off. I went straight to the website after receiving the e-mail. Low and Behold they did not raise the price for what they actually want for the jerseys. After processing the order for 70% off the listed price (29.99), they placed the order on hold and left a message on my machine. I call and am basically told "They aren't 70% off, they are a sale price of 17.99." After fighting throughout the Pens/Flyers 2nd intermission, I ended up frustrated and ended up canceling the order.

Why not just market correctly and say "These jerseys are $XX" instead of using deception to make it seems like customers are getting more savings. I tried to catch them in their lie, and they openly admitted of their practice.

This is the second issue I had with them, I have a One55 shaft collecting dust from the last incorrect order I received from them. This is why everyone should support their local LHS. No misdirection or price gouging.

They are my LHS though.

Hockeygiant.com by far has been the worst in customer service in my opinion. I have been trying to return some pants and they use this policy that we need authorization, thus after leaving many, many messages, they never called me back, nor can I get direct through to a rep for the return. Ended up keeping the pants out of terrible frustration. LHS rocks, especially when they value you as a dedicated customer because they really take care of you..

i actually had no problem on a stick return. they quoted the wrong flex and took it back and paid for shipping.

That person has been fired.

Speaking of killer sales, do they make deals directly w/ the manufacturer? For instance the NBH Vabor XVI are more than half off and they had every flex and curve at the start of the sale. I figure NBH wants to get rid of that excess stock before the new line arrives in stores all over.

hahahah....one of the better posts I've seen in a while.

I support my LHS for numerous reasons, but I would do it based on the ridiculous shipping and "handling" prices they both charge. I can't remember which is worse than the other.

HM is better for shipping than HG for us in the land down under, $80 US minimum as opposed to over $200 US!

Ouch...

They bought over 1.5 million dollars of just vapor sticks. Yeah, they'll have a few in stock for awhile if they dont price them to move.

Last I checked, every dealer does deals directly with the manufacturer.

I thought LHS' get their inventory through distributer’s such as Hockey West?

Um, no.

You go through a distributor is if you don't have/can't get an account with the manufacturer.

OK, back t o the original question. Did NBH approach HG w/ a large lot at a huge discount to get rid of existing inventory is anticipation for the new line coming out soon?

Most likely if they have a huge lot, then yes. Even us small dealers are given the "opportunity" to buy huge lots at very good close out prices. Only difference is, we don't have $60 grand sitting in our pockets to take advantage of the deal, nor the sales/distribution ability to move them like the big online stores do.

If you have to go through a distributor, you aren't making any money on those products.

I was told by someone in the HG organization that this year HG was awarded the contract to clear out all of Bauer's excess stock for this year, unfortunately they are not allowed to sell it in Canada :(

They're pretty good in store though. They're usually my first stop, although I don't ever get sharpenings there.

Although on the site it says 29.99, the advertisement clearly says what the final price is going to be, 16.49.

It's sorta tricky, but I think fair.

It's pretty simple. Hockey Giant is huge. The people that work there aren't paid all that much and don't make commissions. So, don't do into a big mega-outlet like Hockey Giant and expect amazing service because you probably won't get it. In my opinion Hockey Giant can be great for specific items and some closeout / sales. Otherwise I think the smaller shops I have tried do a much better job overall.

This is why I think it's still important to support the little guys. There are certain benefits that big stores provide that small stores just can't, but there are also benefits from smaller shops that the big boys either can't or simply don't provide.

It isn't a "contract."

They submitted the best bid.

I agree here to an extent.

No where did it say on the site or coupon that it was 70% off the listed price (29.99) it stated that it was 70% off $54.99 making the final discounted price $16.49.

Although I agree that it's ahem "lame" of them to raise the price on an item that is usually $29.99 up to $54.99 just to make it seem like you're getting a better deal, one must understand that this is part of marketing.

At the end of the day $16.49 for those jerseys is actually a pretty good deal. they are heavier weight and fully embroidered logos.

That is if you have a email client that uses pictures. I use Mutt on a shell account, which is a 100% text based All I see is take 70% off CCM Practice Jerseys, go to the site, add the items to my shopping cart, then use their coupon code for 70% off. Not my fault that they didn't raise their own prices.

HG employees have good days and bad days, because we all genuinely love hockey and do WANT to talk about the new hot equipment, whats going on with the local teams and tournaments around. We however are not paid well, getting our hours slashed. It doesnt take much to push us from helpful to sullen and on the brink of quitting.

It's like any deadend retail job, but worse because it COULD be a great job but it isnt.

My favorite time of the year is right now.. Hockey is finally over so the traffic through our store is minimal at best.. And i think of our booking orders as somewhat of christmas presents. I get to unwrapped Hundreds of boxes and play with all the new equipment and twigs that come in!!!!

HG might have one the contract for those sticks but seems like a waste of money to me. They'll be selling those things for a long long time and at the end of the day the profit probably isnt the best! Someone also mentioned you cant make a profit selling at wholesale, I think that couldnt be any further from the truth. Your still gonna make a profit, just not as much as the big boys who buy direct from the manufactorer and receive additional discounts on items for doing so.
