Cage recommendations

Recommended Posts

What's your preference and recommendation for a cage? I'm looking to replace a 15 year old Jofa. I can't keep the Itechs from fogging up too much (or at least I couldn't a decade ago).

I just picked up an Itech 908ti titanium cage. Love it, so worth the cash if you have it. I previously had a Jofa 381 that I had for about 10 years that was bent and rusted. The 908 is so light you don't even know its attached to you bucket. The way I look at it 120 bucks is a small price to pay to keep my eyes and teeth intact....was not hard for me to justify it as it'll probably last me for a while. my 2 cent.

Do a search and you'll find lots more info. From what I remember reading the CCM 480 and Bauer 9500 are some favs on this board. I personally use the 480 and haven't had any negative things to say about it.

Second that. Yet don't know why I still use visors):

I second that. The 9500 is ass ugly, but the itech is a beauty of a cage. Its perfect, light strong and rustproof. Nice chin cup, good straps, good fit on my 5500 and a generally good finish. If you dont want to shell out the extra, the ccm 480 is the second best. Its a light cage and its fairly strong, best looking cage of them all for a pure style standpoint. On phew, if you dont have a 480 mounted on a bauer 4000 your dusty.

Jofa/CCM 480. Still the best bang for your buck and very light and protective. The Nike/Bauer 9500 also a very good cage. Slightly more expensive but also light and protective. The Itech Titanium is very good as well. You hardly notice it is on your helmet. Only problem is it's grossly overpriced. I'd personally like to spend the $199 CDN to upgrade on other essential protective equipment.

I just picked up a 480 and played my first game with it last Sunday. It's a great cage. Took a little getting used to as I was coming from nothing at all...but by the end of the game I didn't even notice it.

I'd recommend the 9500. I use one and I like it alot. The thin bars are nice and you don't even notice them when you're playing. It's also pretty light. As far as looks go, I don't think any cage is cool looking so I don't care if it's a little uglier than a different one.

Jofa/CCM 480, NBH 9500

+1, I have both and they are great. The 480 is about half the price of the 9500 but the 9500 feels slightly better IMO.

Now that Bauer and Itech are under the same banner, I'm hoping they come out with a 9500 with the I2 paintjob, or even better, a Fantom I2 cage with the thin bars of the 9500. That would be worth an upgrade.

You mean the white on the inside?? Why not just spray it yourself? I did that with an old cage I had and it helped out quite a bit.

Anybody use the RBK Cage? Thinking about picking up the 6k combo and it only comes with the RBK cage. How is the quality/vision/chin cup on it?

They resemble 480's with the older style (non floating) chin cup. If the vision is the same as a 480, then it should be great.

The truvision is just awful. Ive taken some pretty heavy hits and the 9500 is trash. I had the old one, 8000 maybe? Mounted it on a 8k and my helmet seemed to stay on my head fine, no adjustments done at all to the helmet made the 9500 cage adjustments to match my old one and the helmet cant seem to stay on, plus they look awful. I had no choice, drove 2 hours out of town to pick up a few pro stock sticks and a 480. Great cage. I had a titanium and it was pretty good but not worth the money, nothing really special. They are strong and dont rust i suppose but its just a cage, nothing big. I really hate the look of the truvisions, plus they cost more and i cant stand the chin.
