Shamless plug for my Charity Hockey Event

I had asked permission to post about this last year and it was ok. If not, please delete and my apologies.

Myself and a 2 other guys set up Put Cancer on Ice a couple of years ago to try to raise money for charity. We hold a monthly pick up game, and anything above the cost of ice is donated to Hockey Fights Cancer. A few years back, Dave Fay who covered the Washington Capitals for the Washington Times for over 28 years died from cancer.

We had asked his widow Pat if she would mind if we donated the proceeds from our monthly game in the month he died to Hockey Fights Cancer in his name. And that is the abbreviated story of how the Dave Fay Memorial came to be.

We have had great support from Hockey Fights Cancer and the NHL as well as the Washington Capitals who have given us great auction items this year and last.

The game takes place on July 25th at Kettler Capitals Iceplex at 4pm

Unfortunately, it will be a controlled signup with the preference going to those who have been supporting us on a monthly basis, and any slots left will be open to anyone who wants to play.

This year we have the Caps in house announcer back again to emcee - Wes Johnson

We are scheduled to have Caps Defenseman Brian Pothier drop the ceremonial puck. He will also hang around a little to sign autographs/take photos.

Caps Mascot Slapshot will be there, so if you have kids (or are a big kid) they should have fun.

And we have the following auction items for the silent auction that will take place before, during and after the game.

If you are playing in the MSH game, we will be playing pretty much after your game, so you can stick around, say hello, bid on a couple of items if you are a collector.

The Sports Page is the actual bar/concession stand at Kettler, and the Front Page is a bar right across the road from the mall. The Front Page will be doing food and drink specials too, which may be of interest to the MSHers who are in town for the event also.

One more little bump. Unfortunately the rosters are set. I wish we could have more play, but we had to put the regulars in first so there are no spots left.

We did add an Luke Schenn autographed NHLPA jersey, with letter of certification from the NHLPA

And John Walton who does play by play for the bears has given us 3 gift certificates, each certificate is good for 4 lower level tickets to a wednesday or sunday hershey bears game next season.

Great job on the charity game....nice turnout. Also nice to meet Pothier....he was really cool.

Pothier was really cool, good guy.

We ended up raising about $9500, so it was a pretty good day all in all.

Again, good to meet you guys from the MSH skate, and hopefully I'll get to play the next one
