So much for an Olympic release to the pros. They probably gave them to guys to break in at practice and Staal liked them so much that he wore them in a game.

As for the Kostitsyn discussion above... I watch virtually every Habs game as I am a die hard fan and I only noticed the S19 in the Toronto game and then the Ottawa game. I looked on Getty Images and it appears that he has been using the S19 for most of his hot streak, except for a couple of games where he used a Warrior Hitman (Dec. 17th) and another unidentified Warrior stick (Dec. 14th). Says pretty good things about the S19 I guess.

Isn't Bauer gonna be pissed about Malkin using an Easton stick, or is he not under contract with them anymore. No Bauer skates or stick. What's next?

Can someone explain how it works when players are supposed to be endorsing a certain company, and just switch out of the blue? For example, Malkin is plastered all over the Bauer site, and he's no longer wearing their skates or using their sticks. Is he under contract with Bauer? Does he have any obligations to fulfill? Or can he just do whatever he wants?

one thing you might want to remember...we don't know the length of the contract. It could have been over in November, etc...but the contract could also say the company is allowed to use their likeness for a certain amount of time after the contract expires.

I was watching the Buf and Pitts game and noticed someone on the Pens had all black bauer boot with gold heel. Is this the TotalOne?

Yes, Jordan Staal is wearing the TotalOne skates

he must have the same hook-up as JR and DarkStar :P

i doubt 1 game was enough to make up his mind - so it's not that surprising - i guess the real question will be if he ends up choosing the dasc skates or the totalones

Pretty sure he would have used them in practices before wearing them in games. Not too many players can/will lace up a pair of skates out of the box come warm-ups.

I know Niedermayer was fine with his skates right out of the box, not sure about Staal.

Messier was crazy about his skates.

in which sense? thought i heard he went through something ridiculous like one pair a week, not positive though.

I've heard some crazy things about how many he went through, not sure what frequency was true.

Messier was crazy about his skates.

Crazy certainly isn't the word for it; I don't think there is a word for it. He was just as bad with stick blades.

My favorite pro blade story was Ryan Smyth when he was still with Hespeler

Is that when Smyth wanted them to put a graphic of Gretzky's face(obviously to match his tattoo) on the blade

If players switch for a product they deem to be better, they won't think twice about using it. endorsement Contracts don't matter to them...

fixed.

Chadd, don't tell us about the story... tell us the story! You guys always hold out on us. Maybe it's to keep us coming on this site but we want the goods man!

I try not to relay stories from others without permission. Especially when those people still work in the industry and the player is still active.

Savard using the Johnson today...maybe to match up with the older jerseys.

Timonen has been pretty picky so far. Switching between Brooklynite and Warrior
