What's the deal with Mikael Samuelsson's skates? What are those white 'spots' on the heel?

someone please correct me if i am wrong but i am pretty sure he has had them altered with a plastic piece from an old elbow pad or shin guard. He had them in Detroit when their trainer showed me his skates. That area is basically cut out from the heel of his skate to give more room for the back end of his heel. Not sure why he has it done, can only assume that its due to the shape of his foot. The Detroit trainer showed me a couple of other alterations one of their staff had made. It was pretty incredible and very creative the way he could take old pieces of EQ and use it for a pad somewhere else.

It kinda weird how dasc is going about getting into the marketplace. I guess they kinda took a play out of the bauer playbook. I saw some paperwork about the skate. If I can I'll link it.

After seeing carbon fibre speed skate boots over 4 years ago and then skating in the ONE90s, I recently wondered when the world of speed skating boots was going to cross back over into hockey. David Cruickshank is a former Olympic speed skater. Well, that didn't take long! Thanks for the patent link info. Very interesting.
