2009-2010 Gear Sightings

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of his gloves and wear them pretty regularly. He uses full digital palms, which get pretty crusty pretty quickly and seem to attract a lot of tape residue- to that degree I can understand the frequent repalmings.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but in last night's Habs Hurricanes game Gomez was wearing the Winnwell version R8 gloves that he has had on for the past month or so but with old school styling. I couldn't find any pictures and it's hard to describe but on the backrolls there was a big V made of dots like the old Cooper and Winwell gloves.

The fault is that of the EQM's. They can easily put a stop to what he does. I'm sure, however, he tips quite well at the end of the season. Fedorov did and he was a MAJOR pain in the ass with regards to gloves.

I'm thinking refusing a player's demands on their gear is a pretty quick way to get the gate.

And if the player is a piece of shit and doesn't produce, a chat with the GM and head coach about it just might change things...

Otherwise, yeah, possibly a situation where you could be shown the door.

Unfortunately, Dallas seems to get a lot of the pain in the ass guys; Modano = 652 skates, Hull = whippy shafts/crazy curve, Belfour = everything, Jokinen = gloves and original Easton Stealth, just to name a few (I'm sure I missed quite a few).

Yeah I'm sure dallas's EQM was just thrilled that after 15 years in the NHL, belfour finally found someone he could trust to hand sharpen his skates for him. <_<

Trust me, I saw Ed work on his own gear and skates many a time. But hey, to each their own.

As far as Hull, since I did have him, despite being so picky about the flex in the shafts, he could not have been a greater guy!

Please tell me Derian Hatcher was a good guy, I always liked him.

Is he really that picky about his gloves...? Or is it an OCD thing? LOL

He insists upon having his gloves repalmed weekly for a start. Secondly, he goes through about 6-8 pair PER GAME. When he left, 2 BOXES of gloves went with him. And he is deffinately a strange bird.....even compared to other Finns. They always kept to themselves here, but Juice was by far the most awkward. Everyone on the team barring Modano that is. ;)

he's come out of his shell a little more here. perhaps it's because he seems pretty tight with Pitkanen and Ruutu, but i think he's found his "home".

Sorry it's not working, I can't find it anymore either...

Atlanta's equipment guy basically put a hard plastic guard over the top of Kovalchuk's skates using velcro. He laced them as normal underneath, then stuck the guards over the laces. The most unique part, though, is that he thread laces through the guards to make them less conspicuous. Nice touch, I thought.

Like those unbelievable aramid and carbon cowlings he designed with Karl van Blankenburg. :)

edit: Oh neat, I found some pictures of a similar set made for Jonas Hiller after THC bought out Eddie's patent:

They'd only cost, what, $800 - not counting the molds?

Apparently Brian's may be using his strap placement on the new Focus pads, too.

Montreal is wearing the throwback jerseys and everyone has the old looking leather gloves. Too bad the goalie didn't get into the theme with his pads.
