Crosby converting to OPS?

Recommended Posts

Very interesting article, good post. Its kind of funny when you think about all the money being spent on these high end hockey sticks when the best (top 5) hockey player is still using a two piece, with a wood blade.

After braking all my wood sticks I decided to try a OPS, and have been in a continues search for a OPS that gave me the same feel as a wood. I'm now going to try a two piece with a wood blade.

I've just gone back to a two piece with wood blade after using an OPS for the past two seasons. Loving it! Can't beat the feel, and for me it makes up for the sacrifice in shot power.

I've also gone back to the two piece with wood blade. It's been pretty expensive to replace the blades so often though but I just ran into some Easton pro stocks and they're really stiff.

I really hope the production of wood sticks and blades doesn't stop in my lifetime.

same here. i've been using a NBH one95 shaft with an XVI blade (PM9) and i absolutely love it. I tried a easton ST (heatly) in it and that was a horrible waste of $40. not the best blade though. real heavy.

Might have had something to do with that stick being about the lowest end OPS on the market...

If you want to extend the life of your wood blades, there are a couple ways to do it that will not impact the feel.

1. Spray on truck bedliner

2. remove the tape immediately after every use

That's something I've been struggling with lately. I replace my tape after every use, but then I find myself buying so much tape. Save money on tape, or save money on wood blades. it's been puzzling my mind for a while !

use a bit of wax to try and repel some extra moisture being absorbed by the tape?

Put on as much wax as you want, moisture is still going to get in there.

nah, there's spray on bed liner out there... it might be marginally more expensive than your average can of spay paint, but it'll cover a lot of wooden blades ;)

edit: tnhhockey linked it.

I'll sign up for email alerts on this thread when Crosby converts to Judaism.

You didn't hear the news?

Technically Kabbalah is just a form of Judaism... Madonna just had to get her hands on another "pretty boy" athlete.

I was unaware the st was the lowest end ops on the market? I'd sure as hell pick one over a price point, i thought the selling point was that they were supposed to be a top of the line stick similar to the old synergy so they were still really strong but at a sacrifice of weight.

ST is new (old) ultra-lite, not the highest end in terms of feel but makes up for it cause it's a tank.

I personally think that ultra-lite punches a little higher than it's weight class in a way, it can't compete with one 95's and such, but put a wood blade or warrior blade in one of those suckers and it's pure money.

I want crosby to regress, to go back to the wood stick (maybe that ancient branches that he used down in his basement)

maybe then we could all go back to lumber

ST blade is one of the cheaper composite ones. The old red ones I really liked, haven't used any of the newer ones.

I think they're only talking about that specific product because it did not meet health standards. You can still use another brand from Canadian Tire.

Do you know of a brand or search tip ? I went onto Canadian Tire's website and tried search for truck bedlinner and only got bed linning kits. I could personally go into a store and ask but I know nothing about trucks and bed linning so I would like to have a print out of the exact product and ask the store employee to help me find the item.

On the Canadian Tire site, search EZ Liner Aerosol Coating.

EZ Liner

I'm also gonna give the spray a try since it's only $10. I'm looking to get custom blades made by Easton so this idea came right on time. Thanks Chadd !

So JR confirmed that Crosby is indeed using a OPS this summer. As a wood blade user I felt like I died a little inside. I don't think I'll ever have enough ice time to get used to composite blades.

dont let yourself die just yet... he's just trying it out.

although i guess with that shot in the shootout, he might be happy with his transition.
