Expense skate repairs :(

Recommended Posts

I realize last night i have a cracked holder one my one90's. I go to my LHS to try to look into getting them fixed. I get informed that I need to buy a set because they don't make the blue one90 LS holders anymore, also they steel I have which is still good but won't fit into the lightspeed holder that I need to get. So for one cracked only its going to cost me close to 200$, 35$ for each holder as well as 35$ for each steel plus around $20-30 for the time and the installation, and then add Quebec's wonderfull 13.5% sales tax on to it. I should almost buy new skates instead of fixing the,.

for what its worth, cyclone taylor sports has the holders for $17/ea, and i think they do online orders.

alternately, there's a shop here that only has one pair of those clear holders left, they're 280 and i bet they're dying to get rid of them. they'll probably give you a good deal as well.

you'll have to pay some sort of shipping fee, but at least you can avoid the high QC taxes.

I'm confused as to why you need a new set of both holders and steel. Maybe we need to go to another shop.

The cyclonetaylor LS2 at 17$ looks like exactly what you need, or you could rock one skate with white holder and the other with the original clear one.

for the record, Quebec sales tax isn't 13.5%. It's 7.5% on top of the 5%GST.

My new LS2 holders + steel cost me 110$ + tax at Frasers Sports in Pte-Claire.

And 70$ per skates + taxes is a lot closer to 155$ then to 200$. :P

What the shop is trying to do is to get him to swap out the LS2P holders for LS2 holders. So if he did that, he needs both LS2 holders and steel... or he could replace one LS2P holder and keep the steel he has.

I don't believe the LS2P holder is still available for order from Bauer, so they would have no means of getting a replacement LS2P holder... Which is why they would recommend the first of the two options.

Could you buy the holders and steel cheaper on line and just have a LHS install them ? Just a thought to help you save some bucks.

^it's what i suggested (especially if they cant get the holder he needs). most places don't mind, they might charge a higher rate for labor though.

You pay nothing for school, and car insurance in Quebec. Pick your battles :P

Depending on age, we pay a ton for car insurance. I'm paying about 120$ a month.
