Does anyone else think that this could get REALLY bad and go all through the NHL very quickly...?

Smid in EDM

Budaj in COL

Laing in WSH

all confirmed cases...and since 4 or 5 other Oiler players have "flu like symptoms" I wouldn't be surprised if they have more than 1 confirmed case very soon.

Yeah, this swine is going around quicker than in the spring. My team has had to cancel 3 weeks of ice time so we didnt spread it to visiting teams or the officials in the league. It has me in it's grasps with 4 more of my teammates. As for the NHL, I think that they will do a good job of isolating players and treating them properly.

pretty sure i have it.

i went to the doctor yesterday (i'm one of those guys that avoids the doc at all costs) and she told me i just had a cold, but it was also really early... i just don't ever recall having pressure in my chest and stomach from a cold. then last night i had major chills and a bit of a fever. today the fever is gone, but my muscles ache big time. i walked over to the dealership to pick up my car, and my calfs were cramping up. no expelling of body fluids, yet, though... so thats the only think keeping me from going to the hospital. plus i'm scared that if i go there in this condition, i'm more likely to contract it, if i dont have it.

plus, this mask is annoying as hell. fogs my glasses like crazy and pinches my nose.

remember that in spring people spend more time getting outdoors, and spending less time in close quarters. I was hearing in the summer it would be a bad season for us as the southern hemisphere was getting hit hard due to it being their winter. Yes it is just a flu, but the scary stuff is how it can affect the young and healthy and be deadly - the total opposite of the normal flu.

Of course the fear mongering of the media is not helping either.

I had it it's not any worse than a normal flu as long as you have a healthy immune system. I've had the stomach flu before and it is alot worse. It don't think it will be anything serious to the NHL.

Ferraro said that a lot of the guys on the team flight were coughing and hacking on the plane. It could get ugly there really quickly.

Can't remember what player...but a player from the Sabres who had been out of the lineup with "flu like symptoms" for a game or 2...travelled with the team to Florida earlier this week because they aniticpated him being able to play later in the road trip...he wore a surgical mask the whole flight.

That might become the norm for teams.

The swine flu is media hype. No worse than the normal flu. Not to mention the shot has a whole bunch of toxic shit in it. Hand sanitizer is your best friend. The number of players out with the flu and/or swine flu wont be significantly bigger than past years.

A guy who comes to my hockey class had a doctor confirmed case. Luckily he skipped two weeks ago and last weeks class was canceled for speed skating time trials at the complex.

In the locker room yesterday he said it felt like the normal flu, except his fever wouldn't break with anything OTC and he said the muscle aches were way worse than a normal flu, like "getting [his] ass kicked by three guys".

As a guy on my ball team this summer said when the first outbreak/panic started.

"Look at the symptoms of Swine Flu...then look at the symptons of THE FLU...It's the Same eff'ing thing"

As long as you don't have any other extenuating conditions, you're fine. If you have asthma or other breathing issues, this is significantly more dangerous than other annual strains of the flu.

Working in a local hospital, we have seen a lot of flu cases, and only a few H1N1. The reason being testing for H1N1 is only done by a state agency/office and they are crazy backed up right now. The test you receive when at a hospital/ doctors office test for influenza A. Both regular flu and H1N1 will show up on in those results. Most are told to go ahead and consider/treat any positive result as H1N1. A big reason why here anyone showing any symptoms is told to avoid work or high populated areas for ~7 days.

My hospital is now 100% out of flu and H1N1 vaccine. Except the live activated virus vaccine in the nasal spray form. No one wants that...

There is also a difference between the normal flu and swine flu. You typically see older people affected worse by the normal flu, but the dynamic of the swine flu has such a more drastic affect on younger (even otherwise healthy) person or child.

But I would assume pro's would have an advantage with more resources for testing/treatment. But I can see it getting worse before better.

we haven't seen confirmed H1N1 but we're treating it all the same so far. Only 1 vent pt. and that was due to being immuno-compromised in the first place. We've been told to expect a 2 week deluge of patients and they're hoping that it should subside. We're out of regular flu vaccine and swine just started going out today. Got mine yesterday and I made it through so far.

I think I had it last year as well when it first came out. I like to be on the bleeding edge. :)

Chills, chest hurt like hell with pressure and all the typical flu like symptoms but it felt different than the normal flu.

Sanjai (SP?) Gupta described his condition and that was me to the letter.

Then again I have heard people who had it very mild so who the hell knows.

The conspiracy theories about this shot are rising fast. Some of them spread by highly educated people, which makes me wonder. A survey showed that more than 50% of health-care workers do not want to receive the shot because they don't trust it. My guess is that health care workers know more than me about this...

Mhmm. Just ask the CDC. They'll tell you everything thats in it. Mercury used to be in vaccines. Formaldehyde is in the swine flu shot. Thanks, but no thanks. Id rather wash my hands.

i got the shot last week and im fine - the nurse also said that schools & doctors aren't even testing for it anymore - if you come down with flu like symptoms right now they just assume you have it.

i guess its still a little early for people to get the old regular flu - so anyone that comes down with something right now probably has it. Or at least thats what i was told...

FYI..it's not the flu that is the concern, it's a secondary pneumonia/ARDS that is the killer in this case.
