Easton S19 helmet

Recommended Posts

I got mine in yesterday (along with s19 shins), and used it at a stick and shoot tonight. I only really have the s17 to compare it too, and they are very similar. The s19 is half the weight (at least) and feels as light as a feather. The fit is very similar to an s17, so if your head doesnt fit into a s17, dont try the 19. The airflow was awesome, much improved over the s17, my head was very cool and i felt like air was running through my hair. I mounted the s17 cage to the helmet, and it worked fine but the helmet is awkwardly off balance. Is the s19 cage lighter then the s17?

Overall a great helmet, havent taken a hit yet though, which is the true test...

Due to the rigidity of the helmet, it doesn't seem to play nice with visors. One of my visor mounts isn't flush on the L.

Same thing for me, with a XL and ring spacers with Bauer straight cut visor.

Sounds like they might need to consider copying Bauer and using a slightly flexible plastic on the temple for mounting shields.

I think it may be a situation in which Easton needs to make a S19-specific spacer that hugs the shape of the helmet. I'll mention that to their PM.

Would you suggest that Easton offer the spacers as part of the helmet package or a separate purchase? I always wear a visor and I doubt I'd purchase a helmet that would require me to make a separate purchase when it comes to spacers along with the visor which usually has the universal ones included.

That would be sweet. My visor is doing the same thing as many others. Only 3 out of 4, or 2 out of 4 of the spacers are sitting flush.

Saw the helmet for the first time at a play it again and it was $199 other then the price it looked great and very light. I tried it on the i thought it sat really low, i was just above my eyebrows and it didnt fit my head good at all, it felt like there were open spaces.

I emailed Easton to find out if there will be an S19 cage and they never responded.

When I get my helmet, I am going to try to fit my 9500 cage which is just about the lightest one out there. Hopefully it works out. I only use cages.

Easton will sell separately a Stealth S19 wire cage that will pair up nicely with the helmet. The S19 cage will offer rectangular shaped bars throughout the mask for enhanced vision and a dual density, moisture wicking chin cup.

Sweet. I didn't read that part about the S19 cage before! I'll be looking out for it.

I would probably assume that they will, as almost every helmet has this at some point. Plus it's a great sell to someone new to the game or a parent looking for the best protection.

Well barring an unforseen miracle, it doesn't look like I'll be getting mine until the full retail shipment goes out in May (all the LHS's in my area are saying May). The "teaser" retail shipment that my LHS received this week only included S and I need either an M or L.

Easton needs to figure out something with these helmets, pronto. I picked up a new Z-Shock at the hockey expo yesterday. Tried mounting a visor on it this morning, and the screws wouldn't line up properly. Couldn't tighten them down flush enough to secure the visor. So I tried pulling them out to readjust, and one of the screws stuck. Skirted the edge of stripping the screw trying to remove it, and the very tip of the screw wouldn't come out of the receptor. I finally pulled at it and the ENTIRE little receptor assembly popped right out of the side of the helmet, leaving a hole in its place. Lovely.

What online sites have the Helmet available in M and L?

Try The Hockey Shop. They had them in store.

I'd be curious to hear JR explain how he finally got his visor mounted, with the issues he's having. Or if Easton is aware of the problem people seem to be having with the new helmet.

Or how every player in the olympics got their visor mounted. And how the NHL players do it. There must be a way.

Mine's mounted.

I currently have two helmets. The M is fine, it took a while, but the L still has that one mount that is off.

Here's my question - who has tried it with Itech spacers?

And as far as the bolt-stripping issue, I did notice that when I mounted the first time. Proceed with caution.

I finally got a chance to try on a large tonight. Man, what a leap in size from M! I most definitely can only wear the M (snug with the occipital adjustment all the way open). The L had significant gaps on the sides on my head. It was not stable side-to-side. Someone mentioned that it will fit 80% of heads? I think that may be a tad high of an estimate.

Oh, and I checked to see if a 9500 cage would fit it, and I believe it will - along with most other cages.

I thought that there were going to be 4 shell sizes and 5 interior sizes. What happened? Seemed like JR had the same experience as skarbro in terms of the sizing jump. Looks like there is a need for an ML size.

There are 5 sizes:

helmet size / hat size / circumference

XS / 6 3/8 - 6 3/4 / 20 1/8 - 21 1/4"

S / 6 5/8 - 7 / 20 7/8-22"

M / 6 7/8 - 7 1/4 / 21 5/8 - 22 3/4"

L / 7 1/8 - 7 5/8 / 22 3/8 - 24"

XL / 7 1/2 - 7 7/8 / 23 5/8 - 24 3/4"

I had an opportunity to try on the M again and it is indeed my correct size. The pressure points are not bad and I'm sure they go away after warming up.

I noticed that a good inch of my ears sit below the bottom of the ear guard. The top of my head is all the way in the helmet. Anyone else notice this? My ears also touch the ear guards. My ears don't stick out any more than normal. I guess I could always pull down the ear guards an inch since they slide down! Glue them in place or something. ;)

Also, in the bang-yourself-in-the-head test, I could feel the hits more than in my current L 5500. I wonder how protective this thing really is? Or maybe the comfort foams need a bit of breaking in?
