Minnesota Wild equipment bus burned

Recommended Posts

Obviously not as important as anyone's safety, but is there any word yet on what this will mean for Saturday's game? I don't see any way they'd be playing (or when they would be again). I can't imagine how long it would take to replace all that equipment - custom sticks/skates/mouth guards, modified protective equipment, knee braces, jerseys/socks, finding something players will live with to replace shoulder pads that have been off the market for 15 years. It's even worse that it's the Wild, too - I imagine it's not like every manufacturer has 87 pairs of Minnesota Wild pants/shells, or green and red gloves lying around.

Wondering if they would be traveling with both white and dark jerseys. If not then they might be able to get their second set and use it tomorrow. I would hope Ottawa would oblige them that courtesy.

I wonder if the gear was insured at all. Clearly equipment is a huge investment by the team and is certainly considered a business expense. How much might this fire cost, do we think?

Except for one team. ;)

Two. Dallas's alt is white too.

The way I've always heard it (including straight from bettman) is that they flopped the homes and roads because of most teams choosing colored alts, not the other way around.

I would bet you see ottawa in white though, it would be a lot simpler for the equipment manager to just grab the home or alt set instead of lettering 40 some new roads.

Usually business assets like that are insured. It will just take time to inventory it all and submit the claim.

I just can't believe that any professional hockey player, especially in the NHL, doesn't have a room full of spare, broken-in hockey gear.

Who would go through the hassle of breaking in a whole extra set 'just in case our equipment catches on fire?' :D

I'm sure guys have backup equipment but you'd usually assume you're just breaking in one item that maybe got stolen or ruined somehow.

How is that a hassle? If you make your living playing a sport where your equipment is such a huge part of your performance, a guy would have to be an idiot not to have at least a couple of pairs of skates at home, or an extra knee brace.

I guess I'd be the exception to the rule...I like all of my gear shiny and new :P Although I cannot say I'd be confident going full speed in new skates, which is what I'm worried about tonight.

same here :P sticks and gloves (well at least the palms and i hate a wet glove feel) specially, but skates definitely needs to be broken in to feel good

Rumor has it some dude from Tampa Bay was seen running away from the equipment van moments before it went up in flames!

Go ahead and blame the black man...

Hmmmmm I didnt see any names or ethnicities mentioned.

Guilty conscience? JR did it. I will alert the authorities.

Just messing with you, bro. Besides, you and me, we wouldn't torch the van, we'd just borrow it for a little while!

I hope a lot of players have trouble getting used to new stuff, and an influx of unused or barely used pro-stock gear hits the market. My team has Wild-coloured jerseys, and I wouldn't mind some new pants, or gloves to go with them.
