Pro Flex?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been discussed but I didn't find anything in the search. In general what is the flex that the Pros use. I have seen a wide variety from 120 to 70. What is the average flex?

Thanks Sid

Most guys use around 100 flex sticks, which shows that most average joes use a sticks that's too stiff.

But average Joes use sticks too stiff so that they last longer too. Pros can afford sacrifcing durability for preformance.

flexier sticks are more durable in some cases because they can bend to accomodate extra load that you put on them. stiff sticks tend to just snap

it also goes by hieght and wieght ,a player at 6ft 4in at 220lbs might use a 110 stiff,a player at 5ft10 195lbs might want that 95 flex, both sticks have different flex but have the same whip for that player.some players want more whip.it all depends on that feel.

All I meant was that NHL players can use sticks with more flex because they can afford them to break while a average rec player couldn't afford to use Brett Hull's sticks because they could go through them faster.

Why is that? More Flex doesn't equal more breakage. I believe we had a little physics lesson where it was the opposite actually.

I'd say there isn't a point in finding the average Pro Flex because there is such a variety in height, size strength and prefrence there would be no real purpose to it. Guys will just use what they feel comfortable with.

Brett Hull uses 62 Flex sticks but most Pros use 100 flex from what I've seen.

Lots of defensemen use 110 so their sticks are stiffer for sweeping and poke checks.

Players who rely more on snap shots and wrist shots tend to like whippier sticks (80 - 95).

My Pro Issue M-2 tapered sticks are 105's.

So, pretty much, it varies. :D

From the pro sticks I've seen, it seems like the average is in the 100-110 range. Its pretty hard to find pro sticks in an 85/SW. It won't always be the case, but keep in mind the size and strength of the NHL, and bigger, stronger guys will typically use a stiffer stick.

i think the stiffest ive seen were Sopels XXX stiff responses, Mark Eatons XX stiff Vector, and Dan Hamhuis' 60kp Koho 3380 shafts.

Jiri Dopita's sticks were up there too.
