New Reebok stuff is GARBAGE!

Recommended Posts

Is the consensus that this stuff is not any good?

I'm planning on picking up some 9k pants and 6k shins, but the 4k shoulders and elbows looked and felt interesting.

their good, just not made as well as we're used to, my straps still flying around but the rest of my shoulders look brand new, just look at the pic in the show it off thread

imo there new pants (9k and 11k), and the new 10K OPS w/ new blade have held up really well. Its just the protective that is a little iffy imo.

still quality gear and if its going to break its going to do it during hte warranty period, but still kinda eh..

Any recommendations for JOFA alternatives? I'm going to hit up some used stores today that have stashes of old gear.

I know I don't like the 9177 elbows.

I have the 10K shoulder pads and my son uses the 6K's. Both have held up fine. Great fit and very good mobility, we're very happy with them. My 10K elbow pads are also very good and a much nicer streamlined fit than my old 9144's. I tried the 7K pants and don't find them too bad either but the protection on them is definitely not as good as my Easton S-7's. My S-7's have much better padding on the behind and around the legs. I really don't like the separated leg padding on the Reebok pants though. More mobility yes, but sometimes a real pain to put them on if you don't line them up properly before inserting your legs. I hate having to fuss with equipment to put it on especially if your a bit late for your game.

Good to know. Did you find a difference between the 6k and 4k? I can't really see much online and they didn't have any 4k shoulders.

The 11k/old 9k's were a pain to put on like you said. The new 9k's felt pretty good and I liked the back protector...when I tried it and the 6k shoulders there was no gap in coverage front or back and no overlap, plus it moved with the body well. Unlike my XXV's which just hang off the hips and move away from the body.

What about jofa 9144? I've had the 9177 for a couple months and don't really care for them. Recently found some 9144 which are perfect

I have a pair of 6k shins, and I have to say they are really comfortable for me, I never notice that I have them on, or that they are interfering, but I do notice that the build quality doesn't appear to be great. For instance, on one of the velcro pieces, the sewing is screwed up, and I can tell I will have to super glue it at some point. I was thinking to go RBK elbows, coming from bauer, but I ended up going with easton ST16's which I find really comfortable, and don't move around.

Try the Easton ST16's or the Bauer Supreme 95/75's. Very nice fitting and protective elbow pads. The Eastons have the newer softer elbow piece and are slightly bulkier but the Bauers are a slightly more streamlined fit but not by much. Both have a nice soft strapping system and don't slip when you start perspirating in a game.

There is no difference in the quality of Reebok compared to ANY of the other brands. I look closely at peoples gear every day when sanitizing their bags, all the other brands have similar problems. People like to pick on RBK, and the same people overlook it when the liner on their non-Rbk skate rips after 1 week, or if the holder is mounted crooked, or if they get a hole in their 4-rolls after a week. Face it folks, almost all equipment is made in the orient, with same materials, by the same people, some even at the same factory. Yes, it's not as good as years ago when made domestically, but again, the never ending end for lightness guarantees that the new gear will never be durable as the gear of the past.

Well, Jofa has a huge standard to meet so I wouldn't kill them on that. But I've got a pair of 9k pants and they seem alright. But I'm pretty sure it's pre-KFS. And I've got their 10k skates, it seems alright durability wise(performance wise fantastic). But I'm really glad you guys brought this up. I was about to go buy a pair of shin pads and 6k/8k were on my options list.

The 10k shins seem to hold up ok. Other than a poorly designed strap clip, which will almost always break in the first week or two, everything else has held up fine.

Oh man this site gets me in trouble. Hit two stores so far and got old 5k elbows and 9144s both brand new. On to store 3...

Has anyone ever had and/or used these shin guards? If so, what are your thoughts on them? Would you recommend them? Thanks.

i have those shin guards and i'm still using them - but i did have to fashion something to wrap around that top strap because it was very rough and cutting into my leg.

I have the 5ks from that generation... and i must say the same thing about the top strap, as they are the same. They are also too short for my needs. Currently putting together a strap with elastic instead. Or i might just stick with tape.

Other than that, those rbks are pretty good quality for the price.

I have the 4k and they're awesome so I assume the 6k are even better.

Six hours and NINE hockey shops later...

IMG_0477.jpg

Okay, I cheated, the PPFi's I bought on Wednesday, but still, I've had a nice spree this week. Found new in bag 5k elbows, new in bag 7k pros (9144) elbows, and a pair of used 8k pants that have a lot of life left in them.

I didn't find any shoulder pads I liked aside from the 4k's, which were really comfortable and mobile. Both the medium and large fit me fairly well, although I think I'll go medium in case I actually lose another 15-20 pounds for next season. I also didn't find any shin guards either, they get kind of nasty when they're older and 14" is tough to find...so I'll probably pick up the 6k's new.

I also had the 4K version of the shin guards shown. I used them a couple times and then went back to my Jofa 5500s. They're light and the liner's really comfortable, but they were a little bulky for my taste.

Tried the 11k skates today at the MSH skate and I was surprised at how well they fit me. It's a nice boot, taller than I like but very usable.

Hit up a few more shops today and snagged a pair of jofa 8800 shoulders. They look a little rough but are super comfy and very protective. I may try and swap the caps for something smaller (no hit league), or make them removable like the Bauer sdp's.

No luck on shins though, so I'll probably go with the new 6ks.
