Warrior Sticks

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Finding myself in a bit of a dilemma here, for the past 2 years I've been using Warrior Dolomites / Mac Daddy's and really love the feel of them, mostly down to the Lie 4 Federov (now Savard) curve suiting my stance and style of play. My problem is that although I really enjoy using Dolomites / Mac Daddy's I've never really been able to get much durability out of them.

I am wondering if anyone has used their cheaper priced models, particularly Swizzle & Anthem, and how they compare to their top of the range sticks. Obviously they won't be as good as their top of the range counterparts but is there a big drop in performance / are they basically garbage?

Any experience / recommendations would be helpful...

Clark

Mac Daddy's and Dolo's are getting totally cleared out right now. As cheap as $99-109 on ebay and select e-tailers. At that price, it's hard to complain about durability if they last you more than 20 games. The Swizzle and Anthem are practically the same price, so just get more of what you like.

i've been using mac daddy's/dolo's for the last 3 years I get 1 season out of them the blade always splits apart on the bottom on every warrior stick i've had, if the blade didn't split they'd last even longer

Really? I'm amazed by that. I'm on my 7th in two seasons and I only play twice a week

Dolomites are notoriously durable. Mac Daddys also have a good rep but not as much so. I'm honestly surprised. Where are yours breaking?

I've broke 3 of them in the bottom quarter of the shaft, 2 at the fusepoint and 1 in centre of the blade.

clark you play roller right?

I play both roller and ice yeah. I thought roller might have been a factor in my sticks breaking so when I got my last 2 sticks I marked one with a "I" and one with an "R" and used them for ice and roller respectively to see if one broke quicker than the other. The ice one broke first and the inline one is about to go (at the kickpoint again).

only thing i can think of is technique, no offence btw, you could be hitting too much of the surface before you hit the puck

coz dolo's do have pretty good durability

Definitely a possibility although I would have thought that if it was a technique problem then there would be a more consistent pattern in how they were breaking.

its consitent enough IMO bottom 1/4 / fusepoint, i think the blade was a "natural" break but i'm not the most knowledgable of this

I've only used Warrior Dolos this year. They are by far the most durable stick I've encountered in 20+ years of hockey. They are pro stock but they shouldn't be that different from the retail. This time last year, I had gone through 3 Easton S17's and an RBK 8.0.8 prostock. I'm on my second Warrior Dolo ( I didn't even brake the first one, it just started to get a little whippy and soft in the blade so I made it my back up stick). I like the feel of the Easton's a little bit better but with Warriors durability I've been very happy I went with the Warrior Dolo's

A lot of people may disagree with me, but Warrior's sticks are vastly overrated IMO

Totally agree. Durability wise, I think they are the worst out there. I don't understand how many people praise them for that. Since i work at a shop i see a lot of people come in and say hey my stick broke fix it... most are warriors, then easton's, then rbk/ccm then bauer. And its not a fact that we see more of one stick then the other because we sell more of them, its just that they break a lot. Maybe our town is ducked up and no one knows how to play.. but we just see a higher breakage of warriors over any other stick out there.

I disagree on the Dolos. I've got 2, one retail one Tambellini pro stock. so far they have been tanks for the last 2 years. great feel, great balance.

I recently bought a Johnson on clearance for $50 but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

How are kroniks? I picked one up on trade for my rbk 8k 2 piece (the kronik is literally brand new, taped and used for a few shots, still has 20 days of warranty left on it.

Well i just recently got a SE16

Comparing to my warrior the SE16 feels more durable by a long shot and thats just after picking it up

After you start playing you can really feel the difference

i have nothing but good things to say about my dolomite 2 piece setup. after about 20-30 games and about as many shinny sessions both are holding up fine. and my dolo 1 piece i turned into a tapered shaft and has been a realiable 2nd-3rd back up. i dont use it often cuz of the curve and its a bit to stiff. but i've had no problems with the 2-piece, the feel and shot are great. much better feel then my SE. i'm thinking about trying out a swizzle just to see how it compares

i agree with the others i feel warrior twigs arent worth it. i love their gloves but i bought a mac daddy and i cracked it after 1 mellow drop in game and 2 sticks and pucks, it was a great twig til it cracked but i dont think it shouldve cracked after such light use

I like the Dolomites. Don't care for the graphics, but I've had no problems with durability like I had with Eastons back in the day. Nothing earth-shattering, but just a simple and solid stick for me even if it's essentially the same stick I've used for almost 10 years now. Granted they're all pro stock, but they're so widely available that I don't run into many problems tracking one down for cheap.

It seems they either last forever or you break them right away. I don't know, maybe that's a technique or quality issue.

I've had four Dolomites and the only one I broke was over the bench when I was pissed off (it was a pro stock FWIW). The blades I've used had the best durability of anything I've tried, and the shafts were all in like new condition (aside from looks) when I sold them. The only problem I saw was a used shaft I bought and sold to a friend who cracked it in two places after six months of use. He also cracked a Dolo HD blade in two places.

My shot has never improved by using a particular stick, and in fact my shot was a lot worse with the One95, so take that with a grain of salt. But my shot was fine with the Dolo.

Most shafts are really expensive new IMO, but I've bought two Dolo shafts in almost new condition off here for $50. Pop in a $50-60 Dolo blade and that's a bargain.

I'm very fond of the vapor 30/Mac Daddy. I know it's 7-8 years old, but it's not that far off any stick performance, plus it has great puck feel. I'm kinda pissed they won't be making anymore...
